Robert Brown Obituary
He attended Lanier High School and graduated in 1954 from Warner Robins High School. He attended Mercer University and was a graduate of Georgia College. Mr. Brown retired in 1990 as Director of the F-15 SPM Division at Robins Air Force Base. Following his retirement, he was the Executive Director of the Perry, Byron, and Fort Valley Housing Authorities for 13 years and served as a member of the Perry Planning and Zoning Commission for 25 years. Mr. Brown served as President of the Perry Jaycees, President and Secretary of the Perry Kiwanis Club and was named Kiwanis Man of the Year in 1999. He was also one of the founding members of Westfield Schools Quarterback Club. A member of the Perry First Baptist Church, he was a member of the Avon Buice Sunday School School Class and was a long time member of the Men's Tuesday Morning Prayer Group. Members of that group will be honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gail Watson Brown; children, Bert and Stacey Brown of Sandersville, Alan and Margo Brown of Athens, and Mary Jane and Chris Kinnas of Perry; brother, William E. Brown; sister, Mary Ellen Barnes (Gordon) , both of Warner Robins; brother-in-law Derry Watson (Janie) of Perry and mother-in-law, Ethelyne Watson Risher of Perry; grandchildren, Courtney Lee Brown, Mary Claire Kinnas, Chris Kinnas 111, Robert Kinnas, Natalie Hedrick (Garson), Jessica Pulliam (Jamie), Andrew McNeely; two great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry Brown, Elizabeth Barkley Brown Bell and a stepfather, James L. Bell. Please sign the online register at watsonhunt.com. Robert was a dedicated public servant as is evidenced by his years of service to his community as a member of the Perry Planning Commission as well as Director of the Perry Housing Authority. He was also an outstanding leader of the Perry Kiwanis Club. This community will miss his dedicated leadership and his commitment to making our city a better place in which to live, work, and play. I will miss him as a friend.
