Dear Bernadette, Celeste, and Elizabeth:
I was so honored to be a part of your mom's funeral mass. She was a fun lady and quite a crack-up. She always said what was on her mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not. (And that was the best part.) Of course, who will ever forget those 4th of July celebrations! That's where my mom would get her m-80 or cherry bomb which she then would blow up on New Year's Eve at our house! It seems to run in the family.... Auntie Rita, you will be missed. Love, Mary Beth

Dear cousins,
Whenever I think of Auntie Rita, I picture a ball of energy, much like her sister!
I hope you can draw on your inner strength and find some solace during the holidays. My thoughts are with you.
with affection,

Auntie Rita was a dynamo, hard-working, intelligent, and had an extremely quick wit. I'll never forget dancing with Aunt Rita at my wedding with her purse swinging from her shoulder, she just about knocked everyone off the dance floor. I use to run into her in the County Building. One day she asked me, "David, how's your mother (Rita's sister, Kathleen)?" I said, "She's fine, working away." Rita said "David, your Mother and I will work till the day we die. It's the only way to keep on living." God Bless Aunt Rita, I'm sure she's swinging her purse in heaven right now.
love,
david, beverly, dani and briana

Dear Liz, Celeste, & Bernadette,
Your mom was the first adult I bonded with as a child, after my parents. I have great memories as a small boy of riding all over the South Side with Auntie Rita at the wheel. Evergreen Plaza was a favorite stop. I remember her as a person of great energy and enthusiasm, with a wild sense of humor. Those memories--and memories of those Fourth of Julys, when we blew the sky over the South Side to smithereens, courtesy of the King family arsenal of contraband explosives--are very precious. Prayers for your Mom and for you, that you will find your way to the place where there is no pain, just good memories.

Rita was my good friend through work at the treasurer's office. She was always so kind, and interested in my life and the lives of my children. I feel as if I know her own children too. She often talked of them. I will miss her and think of her often. I still can hear her voice calling me by telephone, always friendly and helpful. I will miss her. She was a very special person.
