Richard Toye Obituary

Toye, Richard "Dick" Found peace on February 28, 2017 at the age of 83. He was the loving and devoted husband of Judith Toye (nee Swanberg) and they were married for over 59 wonderful years. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Margaret Toye, and his sister, Joann (and brother-in-law Albert) Isola. He is survived by his brother, Robert Miller; his loving children, Michael (Christie) Toye, Debra Sullo, Stacy (Ed) Rurup and Lynnea (Gino) Pigozzo. Dick was a loving and playful grandfather to Amanda (Kent) Chu, Nicole (Dan) Gaspar, Alex Chu, Brandon Toye, Garrison Sullo, Tiffany (Adam) Singhisen, Cody (Casey) Rurup, Jake Rurup and Nikolas, Vince, Mikayla and Gianna Pigozzo, and great-grandfather to nine (and counting) great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Dick was born in Danville, IL and grew up in Chicago. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and spent four years touring the world. Upon his return to the States, he met his wife-to-be roller-skating and they were married soon after Judy graduated from high school. They raised their family in the Chicago-area where Dick spent a long career at Illinois Tool Works. Upon retirement, his interests included spending time with family and their pet dogs, watching classic movies on TCM, golfing, working around the house and yard, lending a hand or maintenance expertise whenever his kids needed it, and for a time, flying a powered parachute. Dick loved to joke with and tease his grandkids, and later on, the caregivers and health care professionals he encountered. Even as his health failed, he never complained and never lost his sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a life well-lived and to share their memories on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Marin Funeral Home and Cremation Care located at 2744 W. 51st Street in Chicago, IL. A memorial service will be held at the Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment of his Cremains/Ashes will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
