I am very sorry to hear of Dick's passing and offer the family my deepest condolences. I became acquainted with Dick when I was a beginning ice hockey official in the south suburbs in the 1970s. Dick was always eager to help younger officials and I learned much from him. He was a pillar of our officating community in terms of demeanor, temperament, and reliability. He was also an acknowleged expert on the rules. We will keep Dick and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Dick Sharp was WAY ahead of his time as an amateur ice hockey official. Dick was unpopular with many teams, coaches and fans because he knew and enforced the rules. He was calling the penalty standard 35 years ago that the National League changed to just 11 years ago and then amateur hockey changed to that standard a year later.
I am Honoured to have skated with Dick Sharp. If every official put in the time, dedication and effort that Dick always gave, there would never be problems on the ice.
Sadly, I had not seen Dick in many years and I am deeply saddened that he has been ill and is now gone. I KNOW where Dick Sharp is today and he was greeted there by all the hockey greats. Everyone one of them has shaken the big guy's hand and told him "Thank you,Dick for Loving Our Game".

Dear Robbie and family,
Words can't express how sad I am about the death of Richard. Dad and I became best friends over a very short period of time at MTH, I would look forward to seeing dad every morning. However, I also realize that although his journey is over in this life his eternal journey is just beginning and I'm sure he will be standing at the gates of heaven waiting to greet us all.
Love to all,
Cathy Kasper-MTH
