Richard Bitterman Obituary

Bitterman, Richard Age 83, died on May 15 after suffering a fall in his home. To all who knew him, he was endlessly creative, inventive, and exploring. He was fascinated by, curious about - and a collector of - everything antique from cars to American flags and patriotica, to Judaica. A self-taught artist, for 45 years he created memorable jewelry and Judaic art objects as a noted metalsmith. Richard adored his family, and he is survived by Bindy, his wife of 48 years; and four children, Andryea (Bill) Natkin, Arden (Bruce) Kruger, Lezli (Jack) Roberts and Adam Bitterman (fiancée Jen Stein); and four grandchildren, Dana and Chad Kruger, Mara and Clara Natkin; he is also survived by a brother, Jay; and sister, Naomi (Patrick) Pruchnik. Services Thursday 11:00AM at the Hennig Chapel, Rosehill Mausoleum, 5800 N. Ravenswood, Chicago. Interment Rosehill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Y-Me 135 S. LaSalle St., Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60603. Info: Piser Funeral Services 847-679-4740

Dear Bitterman family,
I remember being in Marshall Fields and looking at some
incredibly compelling earrings and ring. They were very contemporary and I was only about 24 years old, if that.
I splurged and bought them both because I simply couldn't choose. I am now 58 years old and cherish them . I spoke with Mr. Bitterman once not that long ago to tell him how much I appreciated his work. I am so glad I had that opportunity to do so.
I just learned today, 8/13/2012 , of his accident and your
loss. My thoughts are with you all...belated as they are.

Be well,
Lisa Mionie

Dear Bindy,
We just found out that Richard has passed away. Although we haven't seen you for a while, we have such wonderful memories of fun times together, especially antiquing week-ends, endless talk about cars (the guys) and everything else imaginable...we laughed a lot, learned a lot and enjoyed our times together. Our love and hugs, Dovie

Every beloved life is indelible, but Ric was sui generis, the truest of friends, as unique and rare as his masterpieces of art. And we feel the irretrievable loss of this masterpiece of a man, our precious friend.

Dear Lezli and family,

I met your father many, many years ago and I still have my "Bitterman" tallit clips that I only use on special occasions for fear of losing them. We keep a beautiful kiddush cup that he made in a special place.

May your memories of your father bring you comfort in the days to come.

Nineteen years ago, my mother in law bought me tallit clips from Richard that I still cherish. She bought tallit clips two years ago for my son's bar mitzvah, and last fall for my daughter's bat mitzvah. He was a truly gifted artist - we offer our sincere condolences to his family.
