Reseda Nelson Obituary

Nelson, Reseda 1916 - 2010. Ruth Reseda Annette Matson Nelson (Reseda Nelson) passed peacefully and gracefully surrounded by her beloved family and friends on Thursday, Oct. 7, at age 94, in Brandel Care Center, Northbrook where she had lived for nearly four years. Reseda, who was named for a Swedish wildflower, was known as "Sid." The daughter of Swedish immigrants, Reseda was born July 19, 1916 in Ashtabula, Ohio. She came to Chicago on the train with her best friend Doris Erickson. Together they earned nursing degrees at Swedish Covenant Hospital, class of 1938. She married Norman W. Nelson, formerly of Stambaugh, Mich. on June 15, 1940. A life-long member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, she was a devoted member of North Park Covenant Church in Chicago for more than 40 years. She sang in the choir, served on the diaconate and various committees. She volunteered in the gift shop at Swedish Covenant Hospital for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, who enjoyed referring to her as "the angel I am married to." She is survived by her three sons: Bruce (Ruth) of Crystal Falls, Mich., Charles (Patricia) of Oswego, and Lowell (Jacqueline) Nelson of Park Ridge. Her cherished grandchildren are Christine, Erica (Eric) and Petra Nelson and Christopher Land and foster granddaughter Toni Campen. She was a dear "Aunt Sid" to her beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 30, in the Fellowship Center, Covenant Village of Northbrook, 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CVON's "Good Neighbor Fund," which gives financial support to CVON residents in need. Reseda had been a resident of the CVON continuous care facility since 1990. For more information, contact [email protected]
