Raymond Sarno Obituary

Sarno, Raymond Joseph 59, proud son of the late Frank and the late Ann (nee Lanzarotta) Sarno, dear brother of Frank (Eileen) and the late Larry, was also a wonderful husband to Janet Sarno (nee Sommerio) for the past 37 years, a wonderful father to his two children Anthony (Andrea) and Renee, a wonderful grandfather to Jack and Anne. "Everybody Loves Raymond". Fathers have an immeasurable impact on their children's ability to relate to others. Our father had an impact on anyone who came into his life. Raymond was always ready to take on any obstacle that came his way. At the age of 20 his father passed away unexpectedly. This is when he decided to continue the family tradition with his mom and take over the family restaurant. Raymond was the proud owner of Sarno's Family Restaurant in Cicero, which was established in 1952, where he worked along side his beloved family for many years. Raymond loved his family and their business very much and took pride in treating all the restaurant patrons like old friends. It seemed as though Raymond's happiness came from making others happy. He was a hard working man who never complained. He had many friends and family members who were always willing to be by his side when he needed help. At the age of 42, Raymond suffered a devastating heart attack. Two years later, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Raymond fought any and all of his battles like a warrior. His upbeat attitude and outgoing personality always kept him, his family, and friends in good spirits. He will be greatly missed, but the memories he has left us with will live on in our hearts forever. Funeral Wednesday, November 18, 9:00 am prayers at Adolf Funeral Home and Cremation Services 7000 S. Madison St., Willowbrook to St. John of the Cross Church, Western Springs, Mass 9:45 am. Dear Jan, Anthony and Renee,

My wife Brenda and I found out today from Trish Fitgerald about Ray. I am so very sorry; we did not know and would have been there.

Ray and I grew up together in Cicero, and attended St. Francis of Rome. Ray was a much younger man (1 year). Our family of course were bakery customers and Ray and I played grammar school football and softball together. I attended Fenwick. To re-unite at St. John of the Cross years later was special.

To me, Ray was a smile, a hug, a kiss on the cheek, a "Hi Nicky; who are you and your family" guy. He always made me feel like he was truly glad to see me; that was his way. He was one classy man.

You are such a wonderful family and have enriched everyone whom you have touched.

Condolences and warmest personal regards

We all knew Ray Sarno was the most wonderful man. He always went above and beyond for everyone. I always remeber Uncle Ray cooking in the kitchen while entertaining for family and friends. Uncle Ray would always tell me, "Relax, take it easy." Uncle Ray struggled throughout these years but did not show it. He was too busy helping others. I will also never forget how good he was to my papa Frank Glorioso. Ray Sarno will always live on in spirit. Everyone is devestated, but right now Uncle Ray is patting everyone on the back saying, "Take it easy guys."

Always in my heart and prayers

I love you all

forever, that was Ray. Little Ray big smile big heart a real
man to be cherished with the memories and the example

So sorry to hear of Ray's passing. He was an awesome friend who I called "cousin" growing up in Cicero. Our families were close and I remember Friday nights at the bar and waiting for midnight for his mom Ann's great fried chicken. He had a great sense of humor like his Dad Frank. Although we lost touch as we got older, I often think about him and his family. He will be missed by all I'm sure. Please accept my sympathies.

Jan, I am deeply saddened to hear about Ray. He truely was the most endearing and genuine man I have ever met. I will never in my entire life forget when he came up to me at my wedding and said I was the most beautiful bride he ever saw; and reminded me of that every time I saw him since. We're led to believe that heaven is a place of peacefulness and resting. I know Ray is there, shaking everything up with his fantastic smile and hearty laugh. May God bless all of you.
