McCann, Captain Raymond D. Retired Chicago Police Department, passed away on Friday, December 5th. He was 78. Capt. McCann held many command posts at the Chicago Police Department during his 33 years serving the people of Chicago. He ended his career as Watch Commander of Chicago's 3rd District. Following his retirement in 1985, he then served as Deputy Chief Investigator for the Cook County States Attorneys Office under then States Attorney Richard Daley until his retirement in 1998. He attended St. Rita High School in Chicago where he lettered in a number of sports. On his 18th birthday he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a flight engineer on a B--24 bomber during World War II. He rose to the rank of Sergeant. In 1952, he joined the Chicago Park District Police Department. The Park District Police was later rolled into the Chicago Police Department where he rose to the rank of Captain. He received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University, Chicago and a Masters of Public Administration from Illinois Institute of Technology. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 12th, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 8404 Cass Ave., Darien, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to St. Rita Cascia High School, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60620. A private burial will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Matt and Terry; and a daughter, Teresa; a daughter-in-law, Kim; son-in-law, Martin; three grandchildren, Joey, Ciara and Shane, his brother, Edward and sister, Rosemary. A lunch will follow the Mass at Ripples Restaurant on Cass Ave., in Darien.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Sincere condolences to Pat and family. I didn't know Ray when I was at Area 6, but had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago at home. My prayers are with his family.
