Pondele Sempeles Obituary

Mr. Pondele "Lacky" George Sempeles, 79, of Winchester, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Sempeles was born on October 20, 1927, in Harrisburg, PA, the son of the late George Pondele and Constantina Gretes Sempeles. He served as Commissioner of the Revenue for the City of Winchester and as Auditor for the Virginia Office of Public Accountants. He was a member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. Mr. Sempeles was a member of the Kiwanas Club of Winchester. He was a Veteren of World War II having served in the United States Navy.

He married Helene Reganis on September 25, 1955 in Washington, DC. Mrs. Sempeles preceded him in death on April 9, 1997.

He is survived by one son, George P. Sempeles and his wife, Paula of Chantilly, VA and two grandchildren, Ellena and Stephanie Sempeles of Chantilly, VA.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church with Father Stanley Voyiaziakis and Father Jerry Rassias officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George J. Sempeles, George M. Sempeles, Michael M. Sempeles, Gregory L. Coverstone, David Roland and Michael Orndorff.

A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m., with a prayer service at 2:30 p.m., and from 7-9 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
