Paul was a dear friend and fine physician. I will miss him but remember his love for his patients and hockey. Gary Timmerman, MD-Sioux Falls, SD

I am so sorry to learn of Paul's passing. My deepest sympathy extends to his family. I was one of Paul's medical students - he taught me to be the physician I am today. His gentleness and quality of patient care still guides me in my daily practice. I remember his love of the Black Hawks through the years and his enjoyment of Tanqueray. I will miss him much.

What can we say that hasn't already been said - he was "one of a kind" and will be missed. He was so kind, gentle and always there when you needed him. Every doctor that he recommended always spoke so highly of him.
Life will not be the same without him.

My mom and dad were under Dr. Winter's care. Through many struggles,
Dr. Winter helped them cope and remain active for a very long time. When they were confined to home - he visited. Our family was truly blessed by his quiet nature.

As I write this Paul's Mass of the Ressurection is being celebrated near his home. Many are the reasons I should be there but physical infirmity prevents me. My heartfelt condolences to his brather Alex, his nephews, nieces, and large family who must recognize the huge loss they and we have all suffered. I have known Paul since our first days in medical school in 1952. From the first Paul shaped for himself a unique model of the physician he wanted to be and was. Through the decades since I have had many opportunities to meet students interviewing for residencies where i worked who trained at Rush. When I mentioned his name their faces would light up and anecdotes would pour forth of the enormous impact Paul had on their lives, on their ethic and integrity and all were similar- he did not lecture them, but by his life and singular devotion to his patients he was their model and so he was for all of us...... quiet, humble, humerous, compassionate and deeply understanding of their humanity. With his close friend Ed Fesco we enjoyed many an occasion teasing Paul about his roots in the Austro Hungarian Empire, long gone before any of our time but Ed and I, the serfs and Paul our master. It represented a few idle releases from the stresses of med school. He is my son Tom's Godfather and Tom and my wife Roseanne join me in expressing our sorrow and gratitude`at the loss and the joy of having known this great human being.

My deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Paul Winter. He will always be the most compassionate physician I have known. He advised me during medical school and life. Paul was always positive, encouraging and thoughtful - and what a hockey fan. He worked tirelessly for the benefit of his patients and occasionally relaxed to baroque music and Bach. What a great example for your family, other physicians and for humanity. God bless!

Paul was my senior resident when I was an intern. Years later he shared my office at Rush. He was a doctor's doctor and I will miss him

My father was very ill while I was growing up and Dr. Winter was always there for him. he came from a different breed of doctors that they just don't make anymore. My father passed in 1987 when I was 15 but my mother continued to see him until his retirement last year. he was just so tremendously kind and giving of his time. Thank you Dr. Winter for the many years of devotion to your patients. I am sure you took the express elevator to Heaven!

Dr. Paul Winter cared for my seriously ill sister. He was an intern and the leader of his unit at the time, and his kindness and care for her was extraordinary. I always remembered his kindness to me during that trying time, as I was her only relative. God bless you all and my sincere sympathy. He will surely be afforded a special place in heaven.

Dr Paul Winter; the ideal Family Physician; always caring, never hurried; so thorough he wrote down what you told him from years before and continually referred to his notes. A precious love. Whenever he referred me to another Dr who invariably told me they trained under Dr Winter He would respond; "everyone trained under me"
