Buttkus....what can I say brother. I was shocked to discover today that you passed, I came to Ft. McCoy, the first time in a while. I asked if anyone knew you and they said that they did and they told me the news of your passing. I am sorry that we never got together for that Chicago Pizza that we talked about in Germany! I regret that I did not make the time to do it! You were a terrific soldier, and a great brother. I was proud to be your NCO and enjoyed the intelligent conversations that we had. I was so proud to hear when you left the Army that you had done so well in school and was well on your way of making a successful life. To the close friends and family of Sgt. Buttkus, I am deeply sorry for your loss, Buttkus will be missed, but I am a better person for having known him, he had a unique perspective on life that was refreshing and spirit that the toughest situations could not break. God Bless.

SGT Buttkus served in Iraq with me in 1st Armored Division. He was a great soldier who endured alot of hardships in a hostile enviroment, and never became discouraged. He was truly an asset to the "Iron Soldiers" and the United States of America. He always made me laugh, no matter what the situation was. I will miss him very much. He was a true hero and warrior. "IRON SOLDIERS"!!!!!!!!!!! forever.

Sergeant Buttkus was my finest Soldier. His contributions to his unit and country were immeasurable. He willingly accepted the toughest tasks and never once complained. His work ethic was only matched by his ability to make everyone smile. With a subtle joke and a half smile, he could make anyone laugh. He was smart, dedicated, and hardworking. But most of all, he was my friend and I will miss him.

On behalf of the Soldiers of Sergeant Buttkus' unit, the 3-335th Training Support Battalion, I offer the Buttkus family my deepest sympathies.

Pat, You are and always will be my best friend. You have made my life what it is and I will miss you everyday. I will always feel incomplete and as if something is missing. My heart hurts so bad and it is a struggle to get up in the morning. I'm am not sure that I can live without you but I have to try. I have a lot of support so don't worry about me. You are the funniest, most beautifully complicated person I have ever met. I thought your smile was the best and your hugs were great too. You were there for me through alot and I will never forget that. I love you so much more than anyone could ever know, even in your last few months even when we fought and I didn't show it. I will always wonder what could've been but I know that we have enough happy and funny memories to last us until we meet again. And I will be looking forward to that day for the rest of my life. I love you my baby.-me

First I'd lke to send my deepest sympathy to the Buttkus family. I went to grammer school with Pat but, didn't really see him much during high school, however my memory of Pat is still fresh. He would talk to everyone no matter who they hung out with, or how cool they were. He was always willing to help another classmate out, and was just such a nice person. When I remember back to grade school days I remember his smile. He was always smiling. I'm so sorry that we all have lost such a great friend. Knowing that we can not have him back, we all should take comfort knowing that we have a fantastic angel to watch over us! I hope Pat got to see all of the family and friends that came to say good-bye. He will be missed.

Your Friend

September 30, 2008

Hey Pat!!
Remember when our families went to DC together when we were best friends? That was a blast!
Remember when we would have sleepovers at your house and play video games until the wee hours of the night...?
Remember when we would TRY to dress up in camouflage and run around your block like we are in the military!? LOL ;) Too funny... (You knew what you wanted back then!! lol)
Remember when I went on that show, "When I Grow Up I Wanna Be"? You were at the end and said, "I Wanna Be A Carpenter!". I still have that on video by the way. haha
Remember when we were in Cub Scouts together and you were TOTALLY into it!?
Remember when we played Marco Polo in your pool like all the time?Man we had such good times when we were kids. I know you lived your life to the fullest...

Pat, we went to Grammar School together and some high school. You were a great friend and will always be missed. I'm sorry that you had to leave your loved ones so soon. Even though your body is gone, your memories will never fade... Take care on your continued journey of life after death. We will all meet up in the future, I'm sure buddie! Take care of yourself Pat, and take care of your family and loved ones. We ALL did love you if you didn't already know... =( Bye
