Patricia Kelley Obituary
Mrs. Patricia A. Kelley (nee McGrath), 93, passed away on July 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 8, 1932, on the West Side of Chicago to William and Marie McGrath. She was a devout Catholic and deeply committed to her family.
She met her husband John P. Kelley in 1949 at a St. Patrick's Day Dance. It was love at first sight when she saw him carrying a keg of beer across the dance floor. They married September 27, 1952 and were madly in love until his death in 2009. They had 9 children: John Patrick (Mary), William (Jeanne), Hon Thomas (Lucy), Mary Therese (John) Bambenek, Timothy (Amy), Matthew (Karen), the late James (Karen), the late Hon Martin (Mary) and Joseph who died at birth. She had 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than spending time with family.
Her family knew her for her kindness, generosity, wit, laugh and style. No matter what her family members were dealing with, she would always tell them that she loved them and how proud she was of them. She loved sharing coffee, golfing, movies and vacations in Marco Island with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
In death, she is reunited with her husband, John, her parents William and Marie McGrath, her children Joseph, Marty, and James, her grandchildren, Kelley Bambenek and Sean, and her siblings William McGrath and Mary Ellen Lancaster.
Visitation will be held Saturday July 12 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hubert Catholic Church, 729 Grand Canyon, Hoffman Estates. Interment at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to Ascension Illinois Foundation designating Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence and Programs. Funeral info: 847-882-5580

Dear John, William, Thomas, Mary, Timothy, Matthew, and Family,
As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary community. Our hearts go out to you as you continue your journey of grief. We pray for you as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate your mother, and the love you shared.
As I read the obituary for this woman, "a devout Catholic... deeply committed to her family," who was known for "her kindness, generosity, wit, laugh and style," I I was reminded of the following reading adapted from the Book of Sirach.
"Let us praise an illustrious woman,
faithful to her family and friends, strong in her love.
At peace in her heart and her world,
she has left us her good name, and we recount her life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous woman her good works will never be forgotten.
Among her family and friends remains a rich inheritance born of her....
Her name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing her praises.
We proclaim her wisdom and love of life all our days."
May God´s promise that life is changed, not ended, comfort you!
May the knowledge your mother lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope.
