Patricia Gerwig Obituary

Gerwig, Patricia

Patricia Gerwig, nee Clancy, 69 years old, was taken into God's care on March 31, 2023. Daughter of the late Gail and James Clancy. A proud born and raised Chicagoan who always spoke of her fondest memories at Visitation and on the Boulevard. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband of nearly 50 years, John, her children Johnny (Camesha) and Jill Parolin (Dave). Her joyful spirit and kindness will live on through her grandchildren Emme and Izzy. The care and love she had for her favorite people, her siblings, Ann Gargano (George), the late Jimmy, Terry (Laura), Bernie Durkin (Tommy), John (Carla) and Daniel (Kim), will always be cherished. As well as with her brother in laws Bobby (Mary), Don (Joan) and sister in law Diane Wagner (Bill). Pat was the involved, loving aunt to many nieces and nephews who will hold the memories of their time with her close to heart. She was a dear friend and coworker to many, especially her lifelong friends, Pat Busking, Mary Ann Doyle and the late Sam Moran. A celebratory mass for Pat, will be held at St. Richard's Church, 5032 S. Kostner Ave., Chicago, IL, at 11am on Monday, April 3, 2023. For more info (773)767-4730.

I'm at a loss for words to describe the influence Pat had on my in the 15 years we worked together at OPRF. I started teaching when I was 21 and had no idea what I was doing. More so than almost anyone, Pat helped me find my professional feet. Not only did she make my job immeasurably easier in her professional role (I cant begin to count the number of times I ran into the duplicating center desperate for copies I needed 10 minutes ago), but she helped me learn how to stand my own as a professional--an adult, a woman--in a building that I found enormously intimidating.

I could barely bring myself to walk into the duplicating center the week before Pat retired, and when I finally did I cried. I'm so saddened that she didn't have more time with her family following her retirement--I know how much she loved them and how much she enjoyed helping with her grandchildren. I sincerely hope that she was able to make the most of those 3 years and that her family was able to receive the incredible attention that her colleagues were fortunate enough to experience in her time at OPRF.

It was always great to see Pat when I would go to the duplicating center. Her warmth and kindness was always appreciated. I think fondly of Pat each time I still go to the duplicating center.

I am the Head Nurse at OPRFHS. Pat worked across the hall from me for the whole time we were at OPRF together. She was so funny and kind, helpful, and always up for a chat, and was so excited to retire. My deepest condolences to her entire family.
