Norman was a true Renaissance Man. He had multiple talents which he shared with others. He was extremely intelligent, wise, witty, loving, kind and an advocate for education, the arts and children. I had the privilege of working with him as social worker at Hillcrest School where I experienced his positive influence. He also was a wonderful model for my 2 children when he was principal of Pierce Downer School. In celebration of a life well lived and extending condolences to his family,

Norm was a wonderful educator. I learned so much from him. He taught me to stand up for myself and argue when I needed to! I taught at Hillcrest as a third grade and fifth grade teacher. My sympathies to his family. I will always remember his smile!

I have wonderful memories of Norm. My first principal at Hillcrest. He pushed me to be a better teacher and he was always there to listen to concerns about children. I will always be grateful that he helped me with Chuck. On really bad days he took my class and sent me to Chuck's therapist to help me deal with the young man.
He cared so much about the children and really helped to turn Hillcrest into an awesome school.
Laurel, I am also thankful that you and Norm trusted me enough to watch your children one weekend.
Love to all of you!!

P.S. I ended up at Hillcrest for 42 years and I still volunteer there at least once a week!!!

Norman was a fine and gentle man who will be missed by all us who were privileged to know him. May the Lord rest his soul in peace and may Laurel his children and grandchildren accept this terrible loss with the grace and equanimity that Norman brought to his life. He was a real mensch.
