Hi dear Karen and Family, I don't know if you still check here, but I've been thinking a lot about your wonderful father lately. He was such a dedicated and devoted father - and loved his sports - and also loved music. As I now reach the age that he was when he passed, I take pause to truly understand how much his family meant to him. I still remember the video that was played at Kelly's wedding - and I loved it (depicting Steve Martin as the father - and Norb sitting there with a HUGE smile on his face). After I left St. Rosalie, Norb came to St. Mary to cantor once - and he just LOVED it. It's hard to believe that 11 years have gone by, but I am hoping that Karen, Tim and Kelly all enjoy this upcoming Thanksgiving with happy memories of this wonderful dad/husband and friend. With blessings ~ Mary

To a man who taught me at a young age to be patient, humble , and giving. I was fortunate enough to have him as a coach in little league and someone to look up to through high school and early adult years. He often came to watch some of my high school games to see how I developed over the years as a catcher. He truly cared about what you had to say and would guide you down the right path always. Rest In Peace

I have been putting off writing in this guest book because it has been hard for us to believe that Norb is gone. Although the wake and funeral are over, it is just now that my husband and I are starting to accept his passing. We are so grateful we were able to spend some time with him at the hospital saying our goodbyes and thanking him for all he has done for our family. He was a kind and giving man and made us laugh with his humor. It was such a beautiful service on Thursday that I know he is singing in heaven with us. Our prayers and our thoughts are with the Pabich family at this time of sorrow. Norb will be missed by a lot of people in this Village. God Bless You~~The Van Giesen Family

Karen, Kelly, Tim & Families,
I am so sorry for the hardships you have recently endured. My family and I were so sorry to hear the news. Norb had such an impact on many aspects of people's lives. For me, I will always be grateful for the way he graciously welcomed and worked with me at St. Rosalie. When I started teaching in Evanston, after his retirement, Norb was still remembered fondly throughout the district. Lastly, I'm appreciative that as I've been dealing with my own struggles, Norb would periodically check in just to see how I was doing.

I am sorry that I was unable to attend his services, but am confident that with the many ways he impacted my life in under 10 years, the legacy he created for himself was shown in much support for all of you. Norb told me often how proud he was of his kids, and how his grandkids brightened his world - I see there are more grandkids than I knew (congrats) so I can only imagine the pride that he had in the entire family that he and Karen created.

My last thought is a of a time after a 10:30 mass when Norb asked me to play and record him singing 'Be Not Afraid.' He explained to me that this hymn had brought him comfort and strength throughout some of his own hard times. I don't know whether or not this hymn was part of his mass, but I invite you to read and reflect on the words, especially of the main chorus. I hope that this may provide you with some of the same strength and comfort that it did for him.

Again, know he is and will be remembered fondly by many. I am honored to have known him and your whole family.

All our love and sympathy, Sandy and Mike

Dear Karen, Tim and Kelly and family,
When I heard the news about Norb, I just could not believe it. Such a good guy to be taken so early. God must have been lonely that day. Norb was a wonderful man and I know he loved his family dearly. I've lost my singing partner, but now, Norb, you can sing Christmas with the angels. Our favorite psalm to sing was "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad." I must admit that I find it difficult to be glad and rejoice, but I guess we should because he is now with God - gone home too soon. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you during this very difficult time. If there is anything that we can do to be of any help, please let us know.

Dear Aunt Karen, Kelly & Timmy,
We are so sorry, so very sad to hear this. Growing up, my Uncle Norby was my absolute favorite! He always had that sparkle in his eyes that lit up the room with joy and warmth. Uncle Norby was the fun one to hang out with at every family party. He was loud--full of life & laughter, making us smile:) He always made me feel special. I know it's been a long time since we have moved out of state that I've seen my Uncle Norb & I'm so very very sad that I missed him...but knowing he was there for my sister this past year, it shows he was a wonderful man with a huge loving heart. Please know we are thinking & praying for you during this time. We are so sorry that we are not there for you, truly wish we could be there. Sending much love & sympathies to all of our family.

We were shocked and deeply saddened over the sudden passing of Norb. He was a wonderful individual; a loving father; the ultimate teacher; a tremendous leader; and a "super" coach to the hundreds of athletes he worked with over the past 30+ years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, relatives, and close friends. Norb will forever be remembered in our hearts for his sense of humor, kindness, and enduring ability to make everyone feel very special!!
