I met Niles when I returned to Chicago after living in the San Francisco East Bay Area for several years. As with Niles, I met numerous people who supported the advocate work I along a team of education activists had undertaken to push for improvements of neighborhood public schools. Niles was very encouraging about our work & he was quite insightful as to how to navigate the politics of the system. God bless his spirit as we continue to celebrate his ancestral community.

Niles was a good and decent man...and he was a friend of mine. Niles was always friendly, helpful and sincerely empathetic to the need of less fortunate people of all races, in our great City. I'll miss him, but I'm certainly a better person for having known him.

I met Niles Sherman during the 1980s after returning to Chicago to live; what a wonderful person to know, so extremely helpful with steering me towards people who could help me re-establish. It was indeed vintage Niles-- R.I.P. my brother.

Rest in Peace Alderman,
I knew you as a strong leader. I thank you for visting West Chesterfield Community Associations meetings of recent and when you were alderman.
We remember the bridge you built from the west side of the Dan Ryan to the East Side so children may safely get to Gillespie Elementary.
Further, you, my father and I shared a similar interest in Classic Cars. As a matter of fact you as president of the Multi-Classic Car Club helped me host some of the largest car shows in our community at Stony Island Plaza.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to for you and to your family.

As a young man needing a job and leadership after losing my father at 19. Mr. Sherman gave me a job attending to the 21st ward office . Where I would go on to learn about politics and assist the Chief as we called Mr. Sherman in developing a power house ward. He was a role model and a great leader to those around him. Always willing to share information and teach! Chicago has just lost a great solider!
