It was always a great pleasure for me to say "hellooooh Mr. Markowitz" and hear back "hellooooh Mr. Abrams" on Sundays at Long Grove/Arlington. We would talk and he would always amaze me with his humanity: the way he could/would ask me about how the architecture business was, how karate was, etc. This goes way beyond his giving evidence of his absolutely amazing memory and his internal "youthfullness". I believe it to be more a demonstration of his sweet, caring self that he would remember details about others.
I know from the radiant look on his face that one of his greatest pleasures came from telling me about the achievements of his family, which he did each time we spoke.
I can say without reservation that Nat was a wonder and I know I am richer for having had the opportunity to see and talk to him. He so fascinated me that when "age" comes up in conversation with my contemporaries, (which, when you're 56 like me, it does) it gives me a great deal of pleasure telling others about him; I'm sure I will continue to do this.
He was a warm gracious man and I will miss him. My best wishes to his family.
