Nancy Vertuno Obituary
Nancy J Vertuno, nee Reardon, passed away suddenly on October 1, 2022. A native of Wilmerding, Pennsylvania, she matriculated at Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) in Pittsburgh, PA in the baccalaureate nursing program in September, 1960. She received her commission in the Navy Nurse Corps in December, 1964. After graduation in May 1965, she was assigned to the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth, VA. After leaving active duty in the Navy, Nancy practiced nursing for over 25 years at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. Nancy was the devoted daughter of the late Robert Readon and Mary Tyce Reardon; Beloved wife of 55 years of Leonard Vertuno, M.D., loving mother of Maria (Paul Burmeister) Vertuno, Elizabeth (Ajay) Masih, Michelle Bruggenthies and Katie Vertuno; proud grandmother of Audrey and Luke Burmeister and Bridget, Brady and Ireland Masih; dear sister of Robert (Jan) Reardon and Janet (the late Charles) Bassler; fond sister in law of the late Edward (Beveille) Vertuno, Anthony (Hiroko) Vertuno, and Theresa Vertuno; dear aunt of Robert (Carlin) Reardon, Christopher Reardon, and Kimberly (Jack) Cunningham, Laura (the late James) Cota, Colleen (William) Fitzgerald, Maureen (Steven) Lieberman and Susan (Michael) Goodhue, Edward (Tammy Poole) Vertuno and James (Jyll) Vertuno, John Vertuno, and Anthony Swain and David (Megan Wolfe) Swain. Fond and loving friend to many others. Nancy will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were touched by her life. Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. All will meet Wednesday for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Luke Church, 7600 W. Lake St., River Forest. Nancy will be privately entombed at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials to The American Cancer Society or the The Alzheimer's Association are greatly appreciated. Nancy was such an intelligent, fun and loving person. I looked up to her very much. I remember many good times together at the lake, or at their lovely home, and will cherish those memories. When my grandma started to fail Len & Nancy were the first to visit her at the hospital and always had good advice. So glad to have had the time together that we did; and so very sorry to say goodbye.
