Nancy Grant Obituary

Grant, Nancy Lougee Age 88, died December 28th at the Midwest Hospice Center. Born Nancy Louise Brown, to the late Earl and Louise Brown, she spent her childhood in Park Ridge, graduating from Maine Township High School in 1942. Nancy received a degree in sociology from the University of Arizona in 1946, where she met her first husband, Durand Redmond. Their son Michael was born when Nancy and Durand worked as farmers in San Benito, Texas. Tragically, Durand succumbed to the polio virus when Mike was just an infant. Eventually Nancy and Mike returned to the Chicago area, residing in Skokie. Her second marriage was to Norman Lougee, a former University of Arizona classmate from Bronxville, New York. As they settled in Wheaton the family expanded to include another son, Alan, followed by two daughters, Anne and Janet. All four children graduated from Wheaton public schools. While her children grew, Nancy was involved with the cub scouts, the girl scouts, PanHellenic, and various activities at Trinity Episcopal church. For a short while she shared ownership with the late Joan Hoye of an antique store - Knickles and Dimes on College Avenue in Wheaton. In 1978 Nancy earned a Master's in Social Work degree from North Central College. Her new career path was interrupted, however, when her husband contracted cancer in 1980 and was hospitalized for much of his illness. For many years after his death, Nancy worked for DuPage family services assisting seniors with housing and live-in care. In 1987 Nancy married Dick Grant, an elementary school classmate and life-long friend then residing in Palo Alto, California. With Wheaton as their home base they enjoyed traveling the country to visit with family and friends. Eventually they bought a second home in Tucson, AZ where they could escape the Chicago winters. Dick passed away in 2011. Nancy resided at Three Crowns Park, an assisted living facility in Evanston, before her death. In addition to her parents and husbands, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Lee H. Brown of Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her four children, Mike (Wendy) Lougee, Alan (Janet) Lougee, Anne (Roger Colton), and Janet Olsen (Alan Garfin), and seven grandchildren, Mariel, Paul, and Lauren Lougee, Lindsay, Kristen and Andy Olsen, and Allison Colton. Nancy will be remembered as a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a loyal friend and someone who never passed up a sale on a good pair of shoes. Services Saturday, June 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West Street, Wheaton. Inurnment in the Columbarium at 11:15 am. Reception to follow in Millet Hall from 11:30 to 1:30. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West Street, Wheaton, IL 60189.

Dear Alan and Family,
Please accept my most sincere condolences for the loss of your mother. May you have good memories for comfort, friends for their support and smiles to ease your sorrow. They say that life is a journey and it sounds like your mom had a long wonderful trip. While I never had a chance to meet your mother, the office veterans say she was one fantastic lady.
I am sorry I won't be able to make it to the memorial to convey my condolences in person. Please know my thoughts are with you and your family.
