Janet Murphy Obituary
Janet O'Donnell Murphy, 83, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026. Born in Dorchester, Boston, she was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth and Patrick O'Donnell and the youngest of eight children. Janet lived a full and vibrant life shaped by curiosity, generosity, and a deep love of family. She spent formative years in Morocco with the Peace Corps, built a career in social work and later real estate, and remained deeply engaged in her community and the world. She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Thomas Murphy; her children Isabel Scharmer, Patrick Rosen, Maureen Murphy, and Elizabeth Fischer; and her ten cherished grandchildren. She was also dearly loved by her extended family and many friends. Janet will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. A visitation will be held at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street at Superior Street, Chicago, IL 60611 on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. Info: donnellanfuneral.com or 847-675-1990.
