Mort Nechtman Obituary

Nechtman, Mort Passed away peacefully on January 26, 2016 at the age of 76 surrounded by his family. Mort "the Sport" was a dynamic husband, father and grandfather whose presence will be greatly missed. He was larger than life to those who knew him, deeply loved his family and had many, many lifelong friendships. He is survived by his wife Alva, the best thing in his life; six children, Charles (Kim), Alan, Warren (Heidi), Michele (Steve), Marc (Antonella), Rachel (Brad); sister, Eileen (Lloyd); grandchildren, Josh (Athena), Alyson, Ashley, Lorenzo, Eli, Andrew, Sarah, Zachary, Isabel; and two dogs, Heather and Nipper. He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye; father, Charles; grandparents, Moonie and Sara Nechtman, Kate and Edward Zimbler; as well as many cousins from Chicago, Florida and Georgia. Mort was born in Chicago and loved to tell stories about selling blue jeans on Maxwell Street, playing baseball at Comiskey Park, and building his many businesses from the bottoms up. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, and when he returned, he established himself as a general contractor, a legacy that is still in the family. Mort played baseball and softball throughout his life and founded the Arizona Senior Softball Association. He would say his greatest accomplishment, though, was his children. His dedication to his family and involvement in his children's lives was tremendous and he was happiest when they were all together. Mort's favorite advice was to "ENJOY LIFE!". The Services and Funeral will be held graveside at Paradise Memorial Garden on Friday, January 29th at 10:00 a.m. at 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Arizona. Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

I went to Bryant grammar school with Mort & we worked on Maxwell Street-he sold jeans & I dole nylon stockings & cotton socks.
Mort was a lot of fun & also a real gentleman.
We played a lot of 16" softball which he really enjoyed.
It´s hard to believe that he passed away so many years ago.
I read a statement that is very meaningful, "one never dies if they are remembered."
May Mort´s memory be a blessing.

Dear Nechtman Family....I was so sorry to read about the loss of your Beloved Mort.

I attended Bryant Elementary School with Mort. He was always the polite gentleman with a smile on his face.

May you know of no more sorrow.

I was friends with Morty from Bryant Grammar School & the old west side of Chicago-we had a great group of boys & girls that still meet today. Sybil kept us posted on Morty over the years-last saw him at a Great Vest Side Dinner some years ago-our thoughts & prayers are with his family-may your thoughts & memories of Morty help you during this difficult time.

Mort had a fun, caring personality. He loved and enjoyed the tomatoes my husband would bring from Michigan. He took pleasure in sharing some of the vegetables he grew in the back yard of their home. However, when he and Alva attended our anniversary party, he volunteered to help with photography efforts. This fun participation allowed my daughter, the designated photographer, to get in some of the photos. The surprise birthday party he pulled together for Alva set the bar high for the rest of her lady friends. It was such fun. Thank you Mort, for being the giving person you were. My sincere condolences to you, Alva, and the entire family. Thank you for sharing the highlights of the family with me over the years.
