I just found out her homegoing and my family and I would like to extend our thoughts, love and prayers. Dr. Russell was a woman who was 10 times as strong, caring, and blessed as her size. What a blessing to know her.

My sincere condolences go to the family of Millicent Russell. I remember her from St. Malachy, Mercy High and NIU. She was a beautiful and will be missed by all. I will keep the family in prayer.

My deepest sympathy to Nancy Lavizzo, Milicent's husband, children and grandchildren. It is truly a small world. I grew up in the 86th and Indiana block and attended Mercy High. Milicent was always a class act and will truly be missed.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. Russell. I was a student at Van Vlissingen until graduation in the early '90s. I remember Dr. Russell being very classy and elegant. I know that she is in a better place.

I have worked with Milicent for 24 years,1st she was in the room across the the hall, then she moved to become Assistant Prinicpal and on to Principle. She worked very hard at her job. I will miss her dearly. Peace be with her and the family she left behind, both at home and here at Lavizzo School.

Millicent was my son's student teacher at Neil School many years ago and he'd come home every day and tell me all about "Miss Lavizzo." We are so sorry for your loss God's grace to you and your family.

I feel bad for what

happen to DR,Russell. I didn't know her that well,but from the first day I saw her,I knew she was a good person.She will be missed.

I am sorry that Dr.Russell had to leave ,and I hope you get through this time of depression.

Mrs.DR Russell was like my mother. She always looked after me. She always made sure I was alright. She always expired me to do well. I don't think, I would have the grades that I have now, without her incouragement. One thing that I regret is not telling you thank you for all you have done. For the family don't cry because Ms.DR Russell helped many including me and she wouldn't want anyone to cry. I think she wants everyone to be strong like her. I will always love my prinsiple/Guide/momma/insperation. Don't be sad because Ms. Dr Russell is in a better place looking over us. She will always be in our heart. i KNOW SHE WILL BE GOD'S PERSONAL Angel just because of the person Ms. Dr. Russell is a smart, intellegent, had integrity, potentional, and many more. i have know mrs dr Russel since i was in kindergarten she was one of the best leaders to ever lead a school.She was a srong and loving woman everyone loved her and it was truly a lost to have her gone.

I grew up right across the street from Millicent and we both attended the same high school, Our Lady of Mercy. I am sorry for her family's loss and the enormous amount of grief they must be feeling right now. I am a cancer survivor so I understand what it feels like to go through issues like that. I hope she had happiness in her life and peace of mind. My prayers are with the family.

i'm really sorry for what happened to dr. russel. everyone at my school loved her dearly. i really miss her i even cried when she died to show how much i loved her.

My wife's mother, Dahlia Owens (deceased), who retired as an executive secretary to the superintendent of public schools, was a good friend of her mother, Mildred Lavizzo, during their years at the Chicago Board of Education.

And, I'm an old friend & former co-worker of her brother-in-law, Sgt. Curly Russell Jr, retired from the CPD. The Lavizzo - Russell family have served the city of Chicago and African-American community very well for over half a century, and the presence of Dr. Russell will surely be missed by everyone who knew her.

Personally, I never had the pleasure, of meeting Milicent. I am a friend to Aurelia, her husband Kenneth, and some other members, of the Lavizzo Family. Although I did not personally know Dr. Russell, I read her wonderful obituary in the Trib on Sunday and was so very impressed.



I taught at VanVlissingen before I was married and it was a very old school 45 years ago. I also lived in Christ the King for 35 years and regret that I never had met Dr. Russell.



She certainly did many wonderful things for the teaching community. I am sorry for all of you to have lost such a wonderful woman at this early age.

Although it was quite a drive to your home, I truly enjoyed the time I spent with you and Milicent even if it was under the pretense of "business". I always loved the "family interaction" and "chaos" when I was at your home.



This has been and is a very difficult time for your family, and I know that you have a very close family and many friends to help you through this difficult time.
