Hey Mom!
I am writting to you on here because I haven't built up the courage to come see you yet. I know that sounds selfish, but it's still kind of hard for me to cope with the fact that you aren't here anymore. I MISS YOU VERY MUCH and there IS NOT a single moment throughout the day that you are not on my mind. I'm not sure how to deal with my feelings, so I put them in writting. Check it out...
MY MOM
By: Kim Russell
I know this woman
Who is dear to my heart,
Suddenly one day
It was torn all apart.
This woman taught me everything
I needed to know,
But I never really listened
Until she had to go.
She gave me love
And touched my life,
It's all over now
She no longer has to fight.
She tried to teach me
Right from wrong,
The day she left
I wasn't that strong.
She is gone now
It is hard to believe,
This woman is MY MOM
Whom I will never see.
But, I will see her again
This I know,
The day will come
When it's time for me to go.
So, I'll hold her dear
And close to my heart,
'Cause the day we meet
I know we'll never be torn apart!
LOVING YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!!!

Mrs.DR Russell was like my mother. She always looked after me. She always made sure I was alright. She always expired me to do well. I don't think, I would have the grades that I have now, without her incouragement. One thing that I regret is not telling you thank you for all you have done. For the family don't cry because Ms.DR Russell helped many including me and she wouldn't want anyone to cry. I think she wants everyone to be strong like her. I will always love my prinsiple/Guide/momma/insperation. Don't be sad because Ms. Dr Russell is in a better place looking over us. She will always be in our heart. i KNOW SHE WILL BE GOD'S PERSONAL Angel just because of the person Ms. Dr. Russell is a smart, intellegent, had integrity, potentional, and many more. I love my prinsiple always, and I will never everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr forget what she done for me.

I offer condolences to the family of Dr. Millicent Russell from my wife, Nancy E., and myself. My wife's mother, Dahlia Owens (deceased), who retired as an executive secretary to the superintendent of public schools, was a good friend of her mother, Mildred Lavizzo, during their years at the Chicago Board of Education.
And, I'm an old friend & former co-worker of her brother-in-law, Sgt. Curly Russell Jr, retired from the CPD. The Lavizzo - Russell family have served the city of Chicago and African-American community very well for over half a century, and the presence of Dr. Russell will surely be missed by everyone who knew her.
Sincerely,
Sgt. Reginald Carpenter (Retired)

We remember her mostly, as being a good neighbor. We lived across the street from the Russell's for four years. Cliff and Milicent were always very helpful. She will be missed on that block. There was always a smile on Milicent's face and she would throw a compliment your way. We send our deepest sympathy to the family.

Although I did not personally know Dr. Russell, I read her wonderful obituary in the Trib on Sunday and was so very impressed.
I taught at VanVlissingen before I was married and it was a very old school 45 years ago. I also lived in Christ the King for 35 years and regret that I never had met Dr. Russell.
She certainly did many wonderful things for the teaching community. I am sorry for all of you to have lost such a wonderful woman at this early age.

Clifford and family,
I was so saddened to read of Milicent's death. Ironically I was thinking a lot about your family recently in that I was feeling very bad I hadn't kept in touch over the years.
Although it was quite a drive to your home, I truly enjoyed the time I spent with you and Milicent even if it was under the pretense of "business". I always loved the "family interaction" and "chaos" when I was at your home.
This has been and is a very difficult time for your family, and I know that you have a very close family and many friends to help you through this difficult time.
My condolences are with you all through this trying time, and if there is anything I can do to help you with any paperwork, please do contact me.

I shall remember...
brainstorming with Milicent over the phone on how to complete a federal budget proposal.
I shall remember...
bringing her weekly photos on the advancement of the completion of Lavizzo School and the demolition of Van Vlissingen School.
I shall remember...
selling her Fannie May coupons at a discount for Clifford.
I shall remember...
the zany times we had at conferences in San Diego and Las Vegas.
I shall remember...
the size of her foot next to mine.
I shall remember...
Milicent allowing me to be creative on my job because she knew I tried to do my best.
But...
We shall all remember a dedicated educator who was loved by many and who cared deeply for the community she served.
