Michael Swinford Obituary

Swinford, Michael L. Age 66, died suddenly, beloved soul mate of Karen Curry, loving dad of Chris (Susan), Tim, Jason & Mackenna (Marcus) Holling, proud grandpa of Kayla, Crista, Hailey, Alex & Holli, great-grandpa of Ellie, dear son of Retha (the late Ted) Corbin & the late Harry Swinford, and kind brother of Pattie (Ron) Clifford. "Swinnie" as he was known to his friends, and associates, began his career in the commodities industry in 1971 as a phone man on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for Heinold Commodities, Inc. He became a Registered Representative for the firm in 1972, and later was promoted to Vice-President. After Heinold was sold, he worked for several other commodity brokerage firms, and was currently associated with Rosenthal Collins Group LLC. He maintained a huge and loyal following of customers for many years. In addition to his customer business and personal trading, he also was the head trader for managed accounts with Kottke Associates LLC, and was a partner with Rosetta Capital Management LLC. He developed a unique trading philosophy and style based on a sound knowledge of market fundamentals, coupled with an overview of technical analysis. He specialized in the hog and cattle markets, along with the grain markets. Several times during his long career, he correctly analyzed and predicted major market moves. He was highly respected by persons in the commodity industry throughout his career. His advice and counsel was sought many times on issues pertinent to the commodity industry. The whole commodities industry, mourns his death, and has lost a valuable asset. There was only one "Swinnie". Michael was a member of Curtisville Christian Church, and a longtime Purdue fan and supporter, a member of the John Purdue Club, and attended most home football and basketball games, all the Big Ten Tournaments. He also was an avid motor sports fan, USAC car owner, and collector of rare and unique cars. He was a life member of Austin Lodge #128 F & AM (Tipton, IN), Scottish Rite, Valley of Chicago, Medinah Shriners, AAONMS.
