O'Brien, Michael Maxon

Michael Maxon O'Brien, age 83, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026. He was born on April 21, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Esther O'Brien.

Michael was a proud graduate of Loyola Academy. Following his graduation, he served honorably in the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, he graduated from Syracuse University in 1970 before returning home to Chicago to begin a life of public service.

Michael graduated from the Chicago Police Academy and dedicated 32 years of service as a Chicago Police Officer, serving the City of Chicago in District 18. His commitment to duty and community defined much of his life and career.

Outside of work, Michael found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved walking his dogs, never missed watching a Chicago Cubs game, and enjoyed golfing, traveling, and reading the Chicago newspapers.

On May 16, 1992, Michael married Andrea Grono, and they shared many years together filled with love and companionship.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Esther O'Brien. He is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea Grono O'Brien.

A visitation for Michael will be held on Sunday, January 25 from 3:00 PM - 6:00 pm at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N Western Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625. A Service will take place at 10 am on Monday, January 26 at Drake and Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, IL
