Michael J. Murphy, 68, of Orland Park, formally, of Mount Greenwood, Chicago, passed away peacefully, the morning of January 3rd, 2026 surrounded by his family. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Michelle; three daughters, Mairead McTaggart (Todd), Brigid Bartley (Paul), and Kathleen; Granddaughter, Madison McTaggart and soon-to-be Grandson; Orson Bartley. Michael, a loving son of late Patrick (ret. CFD) and Alice Murphy, a cherished brother to Patricia Rios (Richard) and Colleen Murphy. A fond uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor. Born on the Southside of Chicago, Mike, "Murph", Murphy was a devoted union member since 1978 with the IUOE Local 150, he selflessly dedicated his life to the local as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic and Welder, then advanced his career as an Organizer. After 35 years, in 2013, Michael retired from IUOE Local 150 as a Business Agent. He was known for his strength, loyalty and humility, by all. Michael was a passionate husband, father, grandfather, pet lover and a trusted friend to many. He will be dearly missed.
