Michael McLaughlin Obituary
Michael Paul McLaughlin, lovingly known as "Mike" or "Mac", age 68 of Oakbrook Terrace, passed away on December 3, 2022. Mike grew up in Bridgeport and lived in Chicago for many years. He was the proud father of Jessica McLaughlin (Josiah) Timmerman, Brian McLaughlin and Laura McLaughlin; loving Papou of Norah and Ezra; beloved son of the late Paul (Retired Commander CPD)& Mary McLaughlin; big brother to Elaine, Patrick (Retired Captain CFD) (Maggie), and Timothy (Erin) McLaughlin; dear uncle of Caitlin, Kevin, Madison, Timothy, Jake, Maeve, Tara, Conor, Evan, and Matt. As a proud union electrician Mike spent many decades working tirelessly in construction sites throughout the Midwest to provide for his family. In his free time he enjoyed golfing, comic books, rooting for the Chicago Bears, and staying in touch with the close-knit group of friends he made while attending Northern Michigan University. In addition to possessing a unique sense of humor and a gift for story-telling, Mike was also an encyclopedia of classic rock knowledge. A Memorial Visitation for Mike will be held at Nativity of Our Lord (653 W. 37th Street, Chicago) on Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 10:15 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM.

To the entire McLaughlin family, I want to let you know how sorry and sad I am today. I share your grief as Mac had a bigger impact on my life than you or he could ever know. In grade school with friends, sports were everything. I have such great memories of him coming home from college and playing football on 36th Street alongside your house. I remember Mike being QB and me telling him "I can't catch, throw it to one of those two". He took the time, was patient with me, and worked with me until I had the confidence and ability to catch almost anything he threw my way! As a kid, I was forever grateful I could now compete with everyone else. As I grew up, I realized just how much he truly impacted my life and how he taught me a lot more than how to catch a football. He taught me every kid deserves a chance, take the time, not to bully, be patient, always be kind, have confidence, and respect everyone.
You have made a difference in my life Mac, and hopefully I have passed that on to many more. I'm lucky and a better person because you are part of my life. God bless you and THANK YOU!
