My condolences to the Potash family from the Natarus family. Melvin gave me my first job as a 15 year old kid. I bagged groceries and then move to the produce section at Sandburg Supermart. I learn so much about customer service. I still apply to my job today.

Thanks Mel, without your advise I would have dropped out of high school and never would have become a CPA.

It has been a long time since HP Basketball & I remember Mel well, although I played Senior & Mel played Junior. We had some good times together.
The last time we met was while I open the bank branch at the Germania Club for Merchandise Bank. There are not many of us left & it is always sad to see the good ones go.

Melvin was my first boss in a real job at Sandburg Supermarket. I was just 13 and he took me under his wing, giving me the opportunity to learn so many aspects of the business, from stocking to clerical to customer service. There's a lot of kids from Old Town who got their first job at Pleezing, Northgate, Sandburg, or Potash Brothers ("875"). Debbie and I send our deepest condolences to Phyllis and the entire family.
Thanks, Mel!

What a kind, generous thoughtful man. When I worked at Sandburg to support my dance career he came to see one of my concerts. It meant so much to me.

Phylis, Art and Family, so sorry to hear of Mel´s passing. His passion for his family and his business was unparalleled. Take heart in knowing that few individuals could walk in his footsteps.

We only knew of Mel at Sandburg Supermarket. He always was helpful and treated his customers "as his own." May God bless his family and may he Rest In Peace.

I regret that I am unable to attend Mel´s service today. Unfortunately I have been sidelined with a painful back condition. Please accept out condolences. This year, Lincolnwood lost many of its finest, including Morry, Sondra and Hal Lipschutz, Myrna and Dick Lovi, Allan and DeDe Klein and Mel "Sam" Potash. It looks God has assembled the best to form a Bnai Brith Bowling league and a tribe of Indian Guides.

Phyllis- you and your family are surrounded in prayers and love. You and Melvin always welcomed others as if they were family-fun, loving, compassionate and genuinely interested in their lives. Melvin mentored me during my years at the Illinois Food Retailers Association and always treated each and every staff member as if they were members of the Potash Super Mart team. He had a deep interest in raising funds for the Education Foundation and loved to auction off some of his baseball card collection. Melvin loved his family and was very proud of their accomplishments. May our all loving God, welcome Melvin home this day- well done good and faithful servant.

Everyone should have a Uncle like Uncle Melvin. All the fun memories on vacation and parties on Hamlin. Will be missed.
