Olshansky, Melvin A. age 74, of Glencoe, Chairman of Maurice Sporting Goods, which was established in 1923 by his father Maurice, is the largest sporting goods distributor and manufacturer in North America. Mel was an avid antique car collector and was involved in numerous charities, including the Lincoln Park Zoo and Maurice Cares, a charitable organization founded by Maurice Sporting Goods. Beloved husband and best friend for 40 years of Roberta nee Hankes; loving father and mentor of Michael (Annika) and David (Amy); devoted son of the late Maurice and Mae; cherished brother of Fay (late Frank) Katlin and the late Harold (Sheila); dear brother-in-law of Bill (Mimi) and Jim (Deb) Hankes, Mary Ann (Jim) Lindquist and the late John (Brenda) Hankes; treasured uncle, great uncle and friend of many. Service Tuesday, 11 a.m. at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Rd., Glencoe. Interment Randhill Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Dear Roberta, I was one of Melvin's lawyers when Arvey Hodes was still "alive". I'll never forget the fun we had in the famous Harrison Arkansas fishing rod plant case. We won and it was all due to Melvin. He was a hell of a witness and a prince of a man. Please accept my sympathy.

Melvin was always an inspiration to me. He would make you laugh while sharing his wisdom. I always enjoyed the time we spent touring stores when he would come in for the Hershey car show.
