Lerman, Melvin Age 87. Cherished and loving father of Elizabeth (Ben) Gordon and Allison (Jeff) Dan; proudest Papa of Charles, Mia, Madison, and Zachary; supportive brother of Albert Lerman; deeply-devoted son of the late Mary and David Lerman; caring former spouse of Cappy Abraham; and brother-in-law to Lynne and Jack Kleinman; and beloved uncle to Gabrielle (Steve) Haskell and Jason (Melanie) Kleinman. Mel was born and raised in Chicago, and, from his many years in real estate development, could tell you how to get anywhere better than anyone. He was a fantastic athlete and active throughout his long life, enjoying handball, racquetball, tennis, and golf. Mel was a dashing gentleman, a fantastic dancer with a classic crooner's voice, who took delight in breaking into song to entertain or lighten up any moment. Mel had a relevant joke for every situation, and retained an impressive catalogue of perfectly-delivered punchlines. But what greatly defined Mel was the kind word and smile he had for everyone. This is undoubtedly what those who knew him will remember the most. He was boundlessly positive, and wished only happiness, good health, and success for those close to him. Mel was "the giving tree," infinitely dependable and supportive to those he loved. The way Mel lived is the response to the age-old question, "What defines success?" Mel Lerman lived an honorable life, and leaves an exemplary legacy for his children and grandchildren. He will be profoundly missed.
