Mary Washington Obituary

Mary Ester Washington, Age 67, lovingly known as “Big Pat” entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 9, 2003 at the Clinton Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, Maryland.

Mary was born on January 6, 1936 in Riverside, Maryland to the late Deacon Alexander and Deaconess Elester E. Washington. She was the only child.

Mary attended the Charles County Public Schools. When she became a young adult she moved to Washington, DC area and entered the workforce. She worked for the Washington Hilton Hotel for many years.

Her hobbies were sewing, cooking and she had a wonderful talent in drawing and sketching. She loved to entertain loved ones during family gatherings. Her laughter was contagious. Big Pat enjoyed listening to Sunday Morning Joy.

During her illness she moved in with her daughter Patricia, better known as “Pat” and her son-in-law, Bill. She often said “I may be given out, but I haven’t given up”. Mary accepted the Lord Jesus as her Saviour and when God called her she went to her brand new home – a home where pain will be no more.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters, Patricia P. Dean, Virginia J. Battle and Edna Mae Royster; three sons-in-law, William Dean, George Battle, Sr. and William Royster; seven grandchildren, Tyloria Amidi, LaQuanda Washington, Quanneil Gibson, Kinyatta Ridley, Teddrick Gibson, Bobby Matthews, Jr. and George Battle, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Leah Washington, Kinyatta Ridley, Jr., Kaiyonna Dean, DeCarlos Dennis and Taydriana Jackson and a host of relatives and friends.

Big Pat was always so full of life even up to her last day. I will truly miss her laughter and smile, but I know she is at rest now with the Lord.

God keep you and bless you as you go through this difficult time of missing her.

One of my most fondest memories of Big Pat is once when we cooked out at Patricia and Bill's, she seem so happy. She laughing and joking the day away as she enjoyed her meal. I also remember when Donna and I would visit her in her bedroom, she often spoke of how Patricia and Bill took such good care of her.
