Mary Vena Obituary

Vena, Mary Louise (nee Matasso) Age 91 of Oak Brook, born into this life on January 28, 1921, born into eternal life on December 27, 2012. Beloved wife of the late John; adoring and adored mother of Michael (Elizabeth, nee Hulka), Dennis (Camille, nee Serritella), Ronald (Debra, nee Biondi), and Philip (Patricia, nee Brennan); cherished nana to Paul, Kim Vena-Bromund, Mary Ann, Anthony, and John Vena, Michelle Volstorff, Patrick and James Vena; treasured great-grandmother to Jessica, Gina, Sara, and Jack. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Rev. Felix Matasso, Joseph Matasso, Michael Matasso; and sisters, Lucille Fusco and Lena Dubsky. Mary is survived by countless and loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mom was an accomplished seamstress. In her early days, she participated in fashion shows as well as designed and created wedding gowns. She was well known for her superb cooking and baking abilities, delighting so many with her delectable food. Throughout the years, these specialties became highlights for holidays and other special occasions. In later years, Mary excelled at many sports especially tennis and golf. For many years, she served as an enthusiastic, active participant in local leagues. She won many trophies and is fondly remembered for a hole-in-one in golf. Mary was a champion pinochle card player. Consistently, she was proud to share her most recent winnings in her weekly tournaments with her son and daughter-in-law. Her family and friends' intentions were offered up in two rosaries that Mom prayed faithfully each day. Although Mary has left this life to rejoin her husband, parents, sisters, brothers, and friends, Mary's life has not left us. Visitation Sunday, 2:00-8:00PM at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Rd. (3 blks. S. of Roosevelt), Lombard. Funeral Monday 9:15AM from the funeral home to Ascension of Our Lord, Oakbrook Terrace. Mass 10:00AM. Interment Clarendon Hills Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. For info: (630) 932-1500 or www.knollcrest.net.
