Mary O'Brien Obituary

O'Brien, Mary Ellen Mary Ellen O'Brien, 78, of Peru, formerly of Chicago passed away peacefully June 28, 2018 in her home surrounded by family. A funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick Church, LaSalle with Father Ronald Margherio, OSB officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery Utica, IL. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with a prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Ptak Funeral Home, Peru is in charge of arrangements. Mary Ellen was born in Chicago on May 21, 1940 to Francis and Ellen (Anderson) McGreal. Mary Ellen married James O'Brien on August 30, 1958, in Our Lady of Peace Church in Chicago. In addition to caring for her family, she was employed as a Bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in LaSalle. She is survived by her husband James C.P.D., son James (Paula) O'Brien Jr, of Chicago and daughter Julie (Craig) Smith of Peru; four brothers, John (Shirley) McGreal of South Carolina, Francis (Roseann) McGreal of CA, Michael McGreal of Chicago and Patrick (Gay) McGreal of CA, sister-in-law Barbara (Ken) Johns of CA and dear friend Joanne (Michael) Rusch of Chicago; five grandchildren Daniel, Mary Cathryn and Maggie Smith, Adam Rusch and Michael O'Brien; three great grandchildren MaryJo, Brody and Dakota Rusch. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael O'Brien and sister-in-law Barbara McGreal. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
