To the children of Charlie and Mary Mullenix,
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you at this time.
Your Mom and Dad were "fun" people to be around. Your dad is waiting for her to arrive in heaven, so they are happy now together!
I remember taking care of all of you at the big house in Golf. Your Mom joined your dad in Haiti for 2 weeks, while Bob and I just moved in with our 4 boys at that time. I was in the late stage of my pregnancy with Charlie, so it was no easy task. I just managed like it was summer camping, and tried to be so organized. I remember Charlie's brother Al, came over just to check up on us. He was satisfied, so he went home reassured. Later when they arrived home your Mom and Dad told us that it was quite an experience. Chickens running under the table they were using to operate on people's eyes. Mary said you could hear the "voo-doo" voices late at night.
When you all lived in Eureka your Dad decided to specialize in Opthalmology in Chicago. He wanted to still work with his patients in Eureka while living in Chicago so he would take the train down to Peoria. Bob would pick him up and he'd stay with us at this time.
When we lived in Washington, we would go over to each others houses and have combined dinners, Doc and Bob would go to a small nearby town that made great Italian specialty food. They would bring it home in large roaster and pans for all of us to eat.
I'm sure all the boys remember when Bob used to take our boys and all the Mullenix boys to Notre Dame together in the morning. Im sure there were lots of stories to tell every morning!
We moved to Glenview from Washington Ill. because of your folks. In fact our first house in Glenview was moved from Glenview rd. to Henly st. what a feat that was! I remember when your Mom and Dad would bring Grandma "Ma-Mu" over, and she would have to walk a plank across a big ditch, just to get into the house. Moving that house even made the local newspapers!
Oh those memories! They were all happy ones--i loved your mom and dad! They are up there with Bob and hopefully i will join them, but not just yet!
Your Mom and Dad were caring and loving people. They thought the world of their family--so they know you will all carry on, in the tradition they set for you!
Love to all of you,
Ruth Debbout
