As young Junior sisters, Sister Kevin and I were transferred to St. Ann´s Convent in Chicago in 1965. I was assigned to teach first Grade and Sr. Kevin was to help out in the kitchen and refectory. I felt overwhelmed with my six-year-old students. I asked Mother Rose Ann if Sr. Kevin could help me in the afternoons with a small reading group. Permission was granted and all was working out well for a few days. However, this arrangement did not sit well with the other primary teachers. I lost my classroom helper. Afterwards I asked Mother Rose Ann if Sr. Kevin could help me correct the endless workbooks of the children. So, every day I lugged home several workbooks which my assistant corrected in her free time. I gave her a set of stamps that read, "You can do Better, On the Right Track, Very Good, and Excellent." This assignment brought a little humor and creativity to Sr. Kevin´s life.
Many years later, I looked forward to seeing Sr. Kevin whenever I was in Des Plaines for a special occasion. At the time, she was the certified dietician in the kitchen.
After I left the convent in 1976, Sr. Kevin and I we lost touch for a while and then we reconnected on St. Nicholas Day when I gave each of my nun friends a Christmas card and little gift via Sr. Elizabeth Jean. Sisters Sandra Marie, Jolanta, Margaret Angle, and Benedicta also were on my gift list before they passed away.
In 2013 Sr. Kevin and two other nuns came to the Northwoods of Wisconsin to make a retreat at Marywood Franciscan Center. I invited the nuns over to my home which was only eight miles from the retreat center. Attached is a photo.
Sr. Kevin was a fun loving and dedicated woman of God. She was gifted with a serving heart. If I could rubber stamp her Book of Life, it would be "Excellent."
Deepest synpathy to Sr. Kevin's family and to her community.
