Marva Baker Obituary

Baker, Marva Ann Lomax was born on February 1, 1953, in Shaw, MI, to Leola (Doll) Lomax and Charlie Wheeler Lewis. Marva and Eugene Baker were united in Holy Matrimony June 10, 1983, to this union one daughter was born, Marquita Shenay Baker. Marva was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Addie Mae Lomax and grandfather, Buddy Lomax of Shaw, MI. She departed this life on March 9, 2002, at 2:50 p.m., in her home in Country Club Hills, IL. At an early age, Marva confessed Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Shaw, MI, even at an early age she was faithful in the Church-she worked as secretary/treasurer in the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Marva graduated from high school in Rulleville, MI, she graduated from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX, with a Bachelors's degree in Business Administration in 1975. Since January 18, 1992, Marva has been a faithful member of New Faith Baptist Church, where served faithfully in the Black History Ministry until she was no longer able. Marva had lots of confidence in her ability to succeed. With her faith in God, and love for people, she was able to move to the rank of management at theUniversity of Illinois. Since 1975 up until October 1, 2001, Marva was employed with University, where she worked in several capacities. Her last position held was Assistant Manager in the Telecommunications Department. She used her faith in God and love of people to serve others. She was co-troop leader for Country Club Hills' Junior Girl Scout Troop #342 and treasurer and board member for St. Emeric Elementary School, athletic association. She served as co-chair of the Parent-Teacher Advisory Board's Special Events Commitee of Hillcrest High School. She also served as treasurer of her daughter's volleyball Booster Club. Marva's desire to succeed in life manifested at an early age. She was Ms. Rulleville Central High School (queen) in 1970. Marva is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene Baker and daughter, Marquita Shenay Baker of Country Club Hills, IL, she will also be missed dearly by her mother Leola Lomax, she is survived by five brothers-in-law, Marvin Sr. "Bob" (Shirlene), Skokie, IL, Robert Jr. "Hooker" Arlington, TX, Ervin, Chicago, IL, and Dornell Sr. "Donnie" (Tara), Waycross, Georgia. She also leaves three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Baker Hollins, Chicago, IL, Faye Baker Swift and Maye Baker-Taylor, both of Jacksonville, FL, Marva is also survived by three great-aunts: Murry Marie (Hugh) Blackman, Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania, Ethel Lee Cooper, Shaw, Mississippi and Adell (JW) Willis, St. Louis, MO, a total of 18 paternal aunts and uncles, 16 nieces and nephews, 11 great-nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
