Miller, Marshall S. "Her soul took flight in summer's storm And danced across the sky She'll wrap me in her angel's wings When winter comes for I" I wrote that when my wife, Jerrle, died in August, 2015. It's engraved on the bronze on her gravestone. On Sunday, July 30, 2017, I lent it to my father-in-law, Marshall S. Miller, to ensure a safe, storm-free sail to Heaven. Mr. Miller died peacefully of complications from a fall he suffered in his home two weeks before his death. He was admitted to Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL, and entered hospital-based hospice care four days before his death. His daughter-in-law Hope Miller was by his side, bless her heart for deciding to sleep in his room on what turned out to be his final night alive. Funeral service and burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 6, at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights, IL, followed by shiva, a home-based celebration of his life. Mr. Miller was a proud member of the United States Navy during World War Two, then a pharmacist until retirement, first owning and operating his own drugstore on the Far Northwest Side of Chicago, then selling that to work for Kmart. He was born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, met and married schoolteacher Gwendolyn Neufeld, spent their married years on the North Side raising son Jess and daughter Jerrle, and retired with Gwen to the western suburb of Naperville, where he continued to root for (and cuss out) the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Black Hawks. He was an avid bowler and longtime member of the Jewish advocacy group B'nai B'rith International. He loved fishing the cold, clear lakes of Northern Minnesota with his family every August until he couldn't handle the thirteen-hour drive any more. He hopes that coffee in Heaven is as tasty as his favorite Dunkin' Donuts, which I brought him every day because he so hated "that hospital junk." Mr. Miller was preceded in death in 2015 by wife Gwendolyn and daughter Jerrle (Shane) Gericke. He is survived by son Jess (Hope) Miller and grandchildren Dakota, Kayce, Skye, Baye, Andy, Mira, and Michelle, all of whom brought him immense pride for their character, determination, warm and caring personalities, and achievements.
