Marshall Dickholtz Obituary

Dickholtz, Marshall

Dr. Marshall Dickholtz, Jr., 68, born November 18th, 1955, passed away from a heart attack on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2024, at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Marshall is survived by his beloved wife Lisa Dickholtz, son Austin Dickholtz, and daughter Autumn Dickholtz. Lisa's mother Johanna, Austin's wife Angel, Lisa's sister's Laura and Jodi and their families, and Marshall's sister Sherry.

How do you begin to describe a man who was so extraordinary, whose reach was beyond borders; whose love, healing, and generosity has been felt by thousands?

Born in Davenport, IA, Marshall was raised in the NUCCA Chiropractic community, following the footsteps of his father. From when he was a small child to his last national conference this past month as a NUCCA and UCRF Board member, instructor, researcher, coach and friend. His undying commitment to NUCCA has led his profession forward, with his innovative leadership of the Gregory Standard Seminar which he created to maintain the highest standards of the NUCCA procedure, for generations to come.

After beginning his legendary career in his fathers practice in Lincolnwood, IL, he struck out on his own in 1984, opening Dickholtz Chiropractic Center in Morton Grove, IL. The opportunity arose in January of 2000, for Marshall and Lisa to combine their businesses under one roof, and fulfill Marshall's dream of opening HealthSmart, Alternative Care for Optimal Health, in Northbrook, IL. This venture, as well as his invention and patent of The Atlas Pillow Company, proved to solidify his status as one of the nation's greatest leaders in his profession.

As a curious teenager, Marshall would sneak out of his bedroom window and hang out in his neighbor's garage, working on cars. Marshall found his love of cars at a young age, which became his lifelong hobby. At 15, before he even had a driver's license, he bought the components to build his 1923 Ford T-Bucket, that became his calling card wherever he went. He still owned and drove it, to this day. Street Rodding has been his outlet for creativity, innovation, utilizing his intuitive sense of mechanics and engineering, but mostly being with the like-minded people of a community he loved.

Marshall's interest in personal development ignited in his 20's as he participated, trained, and eventually led in world renowned education programs and mastery courses. He admired and studied great minds and developed a commitment to lifelong learning. That commitment and spark led him to motivational speaking, which he believed was most effective through humor.

Starting with improv, then eventually writing his own material, Marshall began his seven-year career as a professional Stand-Up Comedian, with appearances throughout the mid-west including an appearance on Showtime. Building his practice at the same time was just how Marshall lived his life, without fear or constraints, just possibility, laughter and fun.

Marshall and Lisa met in November of 1990, on a blind date. From the moment they first held hands, it was the beginning of a Love Story that transcended true love, happiness, and affinity for 34 years together. They have lived, loved, and laughed, more than most could ever imagine.

Marshall and Lisa were married May 29th, 1993, in Glenview IL where they built their home, businesses and raised their family. Their son Austin was born July 6th, 1994, and their daughter Autumn shortly after on September 21st, 1996. Not having had parents who participated much in his young life, Marshall rose to become not just an extraordinary father, husband and provider, but also a mentor, coach, teacher, and with constant diligence, a stand for possibility in all their lives.

Discovering a future in Scottsdale Arizona, and the Desert Mountain Club community where Marshall and Lisa enjoyed a second home, they together opened Dickholtz Health & Wealth, in Carefree, AZ. Marshall planned to continue to practice and teach to further his profound commitment to his patient's and colleagues, for many years to come.

A better friend, you could not find. Marshall has countless friends within his many interests of health, travel, sports, cars, community, fun and adventure. He was an avid reader, a genius of higher thinking and a sponge for greater knowledge. Marshall believed in constant training and was always pursuing to improve himself, never settling for ordinary, in any area of life. A conservationist, naturalist, a believer in the earth's spiritual energy that we are all connected, aligned him as an instant friend when you met him.

Anyone who was blessed to know Marshall knew he was a true champion for love, and bringing out the best in people. A once in a lifetime man that you meet, who draws you in with his kind eyes, contagious smile, his authentic listening, his sincere interest in you and who's optimism leaves you moved and inspired, forever.

In closing, a line from one of Marshall's favorite songs by Michael Franti:

"It seems like everywhere I go, the more I see, the less I know" - Say Hey (I Love You)

Living in wonder every day was Marshall's secret to genuine Joy, and he never took for granted the wonders that surround us in this amazing life.

Remember Marshall, by living in Wonder and search for your Possibility, knowing his Spirit is your Guiding Star.

There are just too many accomplishments, awards, community contributions and his life's impact on humanity to list, but a larger Celebration of Life for Marshall will be held in the Spring of 2025.

A visitation will be held Sunday, November 24th from 10 am to 1 pm at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E Pinnacle Peak Rd Scottsdale, AZ 85255. A life celebration will be held at 1 pm.

I was very surprised to read of Marshall's early passing last year. I had the honor of meeting him at his Morton Grove, Illinois office in the mid 1980s, as I was needing Chiropractic care for my bad spine. Marshall was a very positive soul and his knowledge and curiosity for more was extraordinary. I just found out that he further promoted and practiced the NUCCA method of Chiropractic care, and this is what lead me to find out of his passing. I'm so sorry to hear of his sudden passing and my condolences go out to his entire family. God bless his soul, and his legacy will be remembered. May his memory be eternal.

I never gave it a lot of thought, but in recent years came to realize that of all the many doctors that I have had and come in contact over my lifetime, that Dr Dickholtz was clearly my favorite. A doctor that always felt like a true friend and one that me and my wife always looked forward to seeing. Can't really say that about other doctors. As for fixing and maintaining our back alignments, he never ever failed to come through, from the first time in 1984 when our 6 yr old son injured his neck right up to our last visit a week before he passed, when he was as vibrant as ever and so full of life! He even passed along an alternate exercise to situps for me to try since I can no longer do them due to sciatic back surgery that I underwent. I do them 6 days a week and every single time, I automatically think of our great friend Dr Dickholtz.

To the Dickholtz Family, I am truly blessed to have had your husband and dad as my Chiropracter. The man really cared and loved what he did in treating the whole human body and mind as one.I believed in his practice and within some time my body started to heal itself. I will miss his/staff Christmas cards every year :(

Happy travels my friend. May his memory be eternal.

Dear Lisa,
This is absolutely one of the saddest moments that I can imagine for you and Austin & Autumn.
Likewise so very sad for the rest of the family and dear friends, me included.
I will never forget meeting Marshall for the first time at your cozy Glenview home.
He made me feel like we could have been childhood friends.
I remember that he stopped whatever he was doing when I arrived, to greet me with that contageous smile of his. Then we all sipped on a glass of his most favorite, exquisite Tequila from his collection.
Marshall and you have invited me and shared both of your homes with me, always making me feel like family.
My deepest sympathy goes out to you, Austin & Autumn, and the rest of your family.
You have been a lifelong dear friend of mine since childhood Lisa.
Please take care of yourself.
Time heals everything.
Love you.

Dear Dickholtz Family and everyone at Health Smart,
We are so sorry for your loss.
Dr Marshall Dickholtz was a shining star among doctors, and he gave us our health for these past years, and always greeted us with a smile. As my brother said, "he changed my life" with his help. We were so lucky and privileged to know Marshall and be his patients. Marshall cared for his patients like a true friend, he changed many lives, and it was always fun to talk to him, too. We are glad that he had such a full and active life, too, although it was cut short much too soon. He sure made our world better and he worked so hard to teach his technique to other doctors, and he left the world a great legacy in those doctors who he taught. Thank you! We will miss Marshall very much.

Lisa and Family, so sorry to hear of your loss. Hoping you are doing well during this sad time. Marshall sounded like a great guy. Never had the honor of meeting him. But our dealings in the past were always pleasant. Stay safe.

I remember Marshall when he and his parents lived 2 doors down from me in Lincolnwood. He and his parents were GOOD people.

Dear Lisa Dickholtz and Dickholtz family members,
We were so saddened to hear about Dr. Dickholtz's passing! He was such a vibrant, outgoing, joyful person that I was certain he would live to be 200! I started going to Dr. Dickholtz for NUCCA adjustments to help my problematic back about 12 years ago and I haven't had a back problem since! (Several other members of my family also received treatments from Dr. Dickholtz over the years.) I think I enjoyed my conversations with him as much as the treatments. He was a true Renaissance man, with a worldwide range of interests and talents. I recall talking with him about his trip to Alaska and other journeys around the world, his driving of formula one race cars in group formations in European hills and towns and how he built hot rods as a youth from scratch and drove them around the country to hot rod shows. (I even gave him a book full of pictures of hot rod cars once that he said he enjoyed). I also recall seeing him in his Glenview offices two or three months ago (during a week that he had returned to Glenview from Arizona) and he came over to shake my hand, say hello, and see how I was doing. He was a very special, radiant, spread-the-boundless-joy type of person and he will be sorely missed by all! I'm glad that I had a chance to know him a bit over the years and I'll try my best to spread his inner joyfulness and kindness to all those I come across in the future!
With heartfelt condolences,
Joe, Renata, Joey and Nicholas Carey (and the Carey family)

Dearest Lisa,
Angela Jacobson forwarded us your husband's information(so we would know one of our Osaic family members had a loss) as I also work with OSAIC as a CFP. I am so very sorry for your loss and also incredibly inspired by the amazing person your husband was. Thank you for sharing your husband with us as I feel I really got to know him and you through your beautiful words.

Wow ... this hit hard ... I'm another keystone childhood friend eventually hanging in Marshall's backyard building that hotrod when we were young and nothing but possibilities lay before us ... and Marshall always had a plan ... I was also part of the inner circle of comics fighting to get on the list at open Mike nights ... staying out until 2 - 3 in the morning telling jokes and just good old fashioned goofing around with each other In the parking lots of comedy clubs after they closed and our energy was still in overdrive and all of us needing to get to our real jobs in 5 hours or less ...
Marshall and I had a unique bond I believe as we grew up ... this hurts ... but although cut off too soon Marshall packed a lot of life in his 68 years ... for my part we had many lively times and I'll carry memories of Marshall until my last day ... To Lisa, Austin, Autumn, Sherry ... and the rest of your family who loved him ... I'm so sorry for this great loss ...
