I lived down the street from Mark on High Forest Drive in Belleville Illinois. We had an idyllic rockwellian childhood playing in the streets and yards and houses. Those were the days you knew EVERYONE on your street. Mark often times took me to high school in his Buick Regal when he was a senior and I was a freshman. Always kind and always friendly. I am a Sigma Chi, Omega Chapter (Northwestern Univ.), class of 1980. I remember Mark as a kind, considerate, and thoughtful brother. He was cheerful, soft-spoken and empathetic, always ready with an encouraging word or gesture, and always willing to pitch in and help where needed. I am saddened to learn of his untimely death. The world needs more people like him and is the poorer for his loss. My condolences to his family. In Hoc Signo Vinces. All Honor to His Name.

Mark was a superstar of a human being. He was warm, kind, compassionate, funny (often in a self-deprecating manner) and optimistic. He was, in the Yiddish parlance, a mensch.
Mark always had a gleam in his eye and his positive disposition and humor had a profound impact on every room he walked into. Mark was one of the very rare people that was truly loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but he will live on in the cherished memories of his family and friends.

Susan,
So saddened to hear about Mark. Still remember 13 year old Mark making sure to hug the bride at our wedding. Know that you and your family are in our prayers.
