Marie Hunter Obituary

HUNTER, MARIE
Marie Hunter was called home to glory on Thursday, October 25, 2012. She was born March 2, 1919, in Kosciusko, Mississippi to Charlie and Lottie (Guyton) Munson. Marie moved from Mississippi to Ann Arbor in 1945 to join her beloved sister, Alma. A short time later, Alma and her husband passed away suddenly leaving their four children. Instead of allowing the children to be raised separately, Marie married her childhood friend, John Henry Hunter, and together they obtained custody of the children, I.C., Mary, Ruby and Robbie, and raised them as their own. She and John later had three children: Thurman Hunter, John Hunter, Jr., and Rose M. Hunter, M.D. Marie accepted Christ at a young age, and was a life-long and devout member of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, which she loved tremendously. She was very knowledgeable of the bible and could quote scripture verbatim. Her scriptural knowledge was well known throughout the community. She even held theological debates, via mail, with radio tele-evangelists from around the country. She leaves behind to cherish her beautiful, loving memory: three sisters Christine Glaze, Lillie Munson, Charlene Glaze, and one brother, Isaiah Munson. Her children; Blondeen Munson, I.C. Hunter, Mary Thomas, Thurman Hunter, John Hunter, Jr., Rose Hunter, M.D., a special grandchild, Rev. Christina (George) Dennis, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years, John, and her son, Fredrick Munson. There will be a public viewing at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. The funeral will be held at Bethel AME Church, 900 John A. Woods Drive, Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Monday October 29, 2012. The Family hour begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Internment at Fairview Cemetery immediately following the services.

I also had the honor of delivering meals to Mrs. Hunter for a number of years. She was always one of my favorite stops -- I loved to spend some time talking with her about politics and other current events! Her love for, and pride in, all of the children was obvious. My sympathy to all of you -- and may peace and love surround you.
