Margaret McPherson Obituary

McPherson, Margaret E. 60, loving mother of Steven J. and Sean A. McPherson; cherished wife of Michael S. McPherson; caring sister of Ellen Fyffe and Joseph Moran; friend and soulmate of her sister-in-law Nancy Jaeger. Margaret lived in Chicago from 1946 until 1974 and again from 2003 until 2007, with intervening periods in Williamstown, MA and St. Paul, MN. Margaret, a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago, taught primary school in Chicago and Williamstown, and later served the Macalester College community with unbounded generosity and affection while Michael was President. She was a familiar figure walking her beloved poodle Gracie around campus. Marge touched all whom she met with her warmth, her wit and her deep concern for the well-being of those around her. A small memorial gathering for friends and family will be held in Chicago on March 3; more information is available from the Spencer Foundation, 312-274-6519. Memorial gatherings will be held later in St. Paul at Macalester College and in Williamstown at Williams College. In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to Roosevelt University or another charity of your choice. Arrangements by: the Cremation Society of Illinois, (773) 281-5058.

Marge made so many contributions to the Macalester community. Her spunk, humor, and warmth enriched my college years greatly. Marge's death is a tremendous loss to the world. Mike, I'm keeping you and your family close to my heart.

Marge was a lovely person. She had the ability to make people laugh. She will be sorely missed.
