Michele (Volland) Margolis
July 25, 2004
The Funeral Mass Eulogy to Mrs. Margaret Lucente, July 21, 2004, St. Rene Goupil Roman Catholic Church.
Ma: as called by my Mother GiGi and my Aunt Connie; Nonni: as called by Peter, Johnny, Kimberly, Jimmy, Madonna and I; Great Grandma Margie: as called by Michael, Zachary, Kevin, Seth & Abrianna...
These were all of her fondest names.
Margaret (Landano) Lucente started out as the daughter of Italian immigrants. Life wasn’t always kind in her early years. She left school about the 3rd grade to go to work and help support her family. This was the beginning of many years of work for her.
She wasn’t afraid of hard work or getting her hands dirty.
There was not a job too big for my grandma. When not working at Par Steel, she would paint, wallpaper and even put up paneling.
As kids she came to visit us every day after work. You could set your watch by her arrival time. Sometimes she would arrive home to find she had a stow away hidden in her back seat.
She spent the weekends at my Aunt Connie’s house . The weekends included her reading the papers…National Enquirer, The Star and making gravy and meatballs.
On Sunday morning all of the grandchildren would pile in her car and drive to her house in Bridgeport. First we would stop at the bakery to buy fresh hot Italian bread. Then, home in time to put spaghetti and meatballs on the table before the church bells rang 12 noon in order to keep Papoo happy.
The biggest pleasure for her was watching everyone eat and enjoy the meals she prepared.
My grandma was always there for us. I can’t imagine how life will be without her. But we can all take comfort in the fact that she is now in a better place.
As my 4 year old daughter Abrianna profoundly said..."Now grandma Margie can cook for my Uncle Jimmy".
