Philip,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The Junker family was a special part of our lives in South Shore and Beverly. It was an honor and a pleasure to have known Margaret growing up in St. Barnabas. We are blessed to have been surrounded by such great role models.

Fondly,
Mary Acker Klingenberger, daughter of Larry and Loretta Acker

Margaret Junker was my first Principal. I began my teaching career in September of 1963 at the Banneker School. At 21 I was inexperienced, unsure and in general 'green as grass.' Miss Junker was both a wonderful teacher and a dedicated administrator. From her I learned the importance of establishing routines for the students and of maintaining an orderly and disciplined classroom. Miss Junker never asked her teachers to perform a duty she wasn't willing to do herself. She lead by example. Regardless of the weather she would stand at the corner of 67th and Normal directing the children across the busy intersection every afternoon at dismissal time. If we were on lunchroom duty, so was she. Due largely to her and two other wonderful principals I remained a teacher for CPS for 35 years, retiring in June of 2005. Had I know she was at Smith Village I would have paid her a visit to thank her for her guidance.
May she rest in Eternal Peace. I'm so sorry I will be unable to attend her funeral.
