Maggie Williams Obituary

ELMO - Maggie Alberta Williams, 101, of St. Elmo, formerly of Mulberry Grove, died Tuesday (June 15, 2004) in her home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Kessel Funeral Home, St. Elmo, with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery, Vandalia. Maggie was born April 12, 1903, in Tamalco, the daughter of Edward and Mary Belle (Coin) Gum. She lived in Mulberry Grove for 72 years, where she and her husband owned and operated William's Barber Shop. She moved to St. Elmo in May 1996. She married Virgil Norwood Williams on Dec. 15, 1924, in Greenville. Surviving are daughter, Arlene (Robert) Hunsaker of Lakeland, Fla.; son, Melvin (Ethelyn) Williams of St. Elmo; sister, Zepha Painter of Alamogordo, N.M.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Dallas, Howard, Glyde, Gordon "Gigs," Marvin "Buck," Paul, Leland and Luther "Barney" Gum; sisters, Erma Vonburg, Alderene Vonburg and Mary Buvarskis; one grandson, Navy Lt. Bruce Williams.
