Lt. Colonel Edward G. Furlong (U.S. Army Retired), age 65, of Tyrone died September 28, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He retired from the U.S. Army at Ft. McPherson with 20 years of service. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he was active in the choir, and the St. Vincent dePaul Society. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Eileen Furlong; sister, Joan; and his wife, Linda. Survived by his children, daughter,Debra Gruenagel and husband Horst of Kashofen, Germany; daughter,Valerie Harrell and husband David and children, Steven and Kimmie of Boron, CA, son, Michael and his wife Eileen and great granddaughter, Jordan of Navarre, FL; son, Kevin Furlong and wife, Jana, and children, Katie and Ryan of Omaha, NE; son, Brian Furlong and wife, Trenna, and children, Bryna and Brentley of Rome, GA; son, Keith Furlong and wife, Elizabeth, of Newnan; son, Eric Furlong of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Alfred Furlong of, MA and Richard Furlong of CA; sisters-in-law, Karin and Bob Peltz of PA, Lucy Furlong of MA, and Debbie and Nick Pitaro of MA. Funeral mass will be held Thursday October 2 at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father John Walsh officiating. Interment with full military honors at Camp Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
