Dear Rose: I learned about Lou's death very belatedly but still wanted to add a sympathy note to your guest book.

Lou was one of a kind and had a warm personality that brought smiles to everyone. He was a "larger than life" sort of guy and I wish I could have been at the wake to hear and share his friends' stories about him. I'm sure the tales of the "good old days" warmed the room. Daley's stepping down and Lou's passing...certainly an end to an era.

Please accept my sincere condolences. I know you will miss his companionship a great deal but hope you are doing ok. I never think of the glory days of Chicago's events without thinking of you. Many things will never be the same.

Sincerely ~~ Connie Scanlan

Hi Mark, So sorry to hear about your Dad. Don't know if you ever knew this, but he and my mother graduated from Wells High together. How ironic that we wound up living in the same neighborhood.

Dear Rose,

I am so sorry to hear about Lou. You both have meant so much to my family throughout the years. Our parents, Carl and JoAnn Cipolla, shared many of life's special moments together with you. We're grateful they had the blessings of such a wonderful friendship. May your memories be a comfort to you and your children.

To the Farina Family,

I am very sorry for your loss and you have my sincere condolences. I met Mr. Farina almost 19 years ago when I was first employed at the Safer Foundation. He welcomed me to the agency and was always there for me if I needed advice. As the years passed and I would see him at different places or functions around the city, he would always give me a handshake and talk me up for a few minutes. Lou was really a good guy and a friend to many people. You all are in my prayers.

Dear Rose, this is a voice from the past. I truly know the sorrow you are going through and will pray for Lou's soul now. We just buried our son Steve 10 days ago. He was 50 and fought that cancer since the age of 27. He lived with us 22 yrs. Pheumonia and heart failure was the killing factor. So we truly know that emptiness in your heart. Carol (the old Arts Council days & Tom Ledvina.

Dear Rose and Family, The Honorable Louis Farina was one of the finest gentleman I've known - always loyal, willing to help. Knowing him added to my life. My heart and prayers go to you all.

Dear Family, I have two distinct memories of your father :Lou:"
The first was when my husband and I visited the family home with my inlaws (Bernie & VI) celebrating Richie's elementary school graduation. I thought it was the most beautiful home I had seen, and your mom was so nice and generous, Lou the life of the party (with the exception of Bernie).
The second was many years later when he visited our local Lions Club and shared some of his not so pleasant memories with us.As I listened, I thought it took real courage to share his story. The true legacy is "Who he loved, and who loved him." For "Lou" that was many.
I wish for all of you at this sad time, comfort and peace.

To Lou's Family, et al,
I was saddened to hear of Lou's death today. To me he was a true Chicago character and fixture. I was on several occasions a guest on his UHF TV show and knew him from my City Hall days. To me his greatest character strength was his ability to befriend and mix with all sorts of people from a multitude of backgrounds. He was a man of the people, all of the people. And, most importantly, he was a stand-up guy and lived up to his word.
He gave me a break in helping me launch my business, the Chicago Supernatural (Ghost) Tours, with TV exposure and I am sorry that I cannot get to the wake.(It is Friday the 13th today, how ironic, and my contracted appearances will not permit it.)
My prayers are with all of you.

He confiided in me in those difficult days... and always had a great cigar for me. Please be assured of my prayers. Together in Christ, Rev. Maurice Kissane
