Lorraine Clark Obituary

Lorraine Frances (Nelson) Clark – 79, passed away at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she has resided for the past year, on Friday, July 18, 2003. Born in Montpelier on August 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Adolph and Minnie (Guyette) Nelson. On June 14, 1947, she married Arnold R. Clark in Waterbury. Mr. Clark passed away on March 16, 1999.

Lorraine was a 1941 graduate of Waterbury High School and continued her education at the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in Burlington where she graduated with her RN degree. She served with the Army Nursing Corp during WWII in the Philippines and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. Following her marriage, she was busy as a homemaker and raising her family. Lorraine worked many years as a private duty nurse and most recently, was employed by the former Waterbury Home Health. Following her retirement, she and her husband crafted hand carved and painted animal figurines and decorative birds, which they sold at area flea markets.

Her memberships included the Waterbury Congregational Church, the Queen Esther Chapter #7 – OES, she was a former member of the local and state PTA and was a former Den Mother. In her leisure time she enjoyed snow-mobiling, staying at camp on Cobb Hill, golfing, fishing and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Known for being very creative, she also enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting.

Lorraine is survived by her three children, Valerie Zimmerman of Waterbury, Randall Clark and his wife, Lucinda of Duxbury, and Jeffrey Clark and his wife, Diane of Barre; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Martinet of Waterbury; 2 brothers, Norman Nelson of Waterbury Center and Donald Nelson of Tolland CT; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the Waterbury Congregational Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Monday from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Waterbury Congregational Church Building Fund, PO Box 72, Waterbury VT 05676.
