Lois Mazzuca Obituary

Mazzuca, Lois Camille

Lois Camille Mazzuca, 84, of Wooddale, Illinois passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 10, 1941, to Camille and Lewis Mazzuca, Lois graduated from Marycrest College before embarking on a long and illustrious career in education and public service. She was known for both her humor and her candor and was a respected confidante to many throughout the years. Lois was an accomplished educator and trusted friend. Her many professional accomplishments included serving as a teacher and counselor at Notre Dame High School in Chicago, as a college counselor and coordinator at Glenbrook North High School and as Admissions Director for Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She additionally served as the President of the Illinois Association of College Admission Counselors, President of the National Association of College Admission Counselors, a Board Member on the DuPage County Regional School Board, an Alderman for City of Wood Dale and as Supervisor of the Addison Township Board. She was appointed by the Governor to the Illinois Student Assistance Commission and later served on the Emergency Response Team for the City of Wood Dale, a place she loved dearly. Lois loved cooking, golf, traveling the world with her friends and family and the Chicago Bears. Aptly described as a "force of nature," Lois will be remembered for her unwavering generosity of spirit and her easygoing and collected demeanor. She was a dynamic leader and a loyal friend- quick to forge new friendships, while simultaneously holding onto those she'd had since childhood. She had a quick, dry wit and a smile that would light up a room. She was a listener and helper by nature, and was well-known both professionally and personally as a giver of invaluable guidance, advice and counsel. Lois C. Mazzuca was preceded in death by her parents, Camille Carol Mazzuca (Née Parillo) and Lewis Diego Mazzuca. She is survived by her brothers, Lewis "Butch" Mazzuca and his wife Bobbi Bryson and her brother Richard Mazzuca; her niece, Kate Mazzuca and her husband, Ari Schwartzman; and her grandnephew, Beckett. A visitation will be held at Geils Funeral Home at 260 West Irving Park Road, Wood Dale, IL 60191 on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 4-8p. A funeral service will follow on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10am at Church of the Holy Ghost at 254 N. Wood Dale Rd., Wood Dale, IL 60191. interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL. In lieu of flowers, Lois has requested that donations be made to The American Cancer Society and The American Heart Association.
