Lois, God looked around his garden
and found an empty place. He then
looked down upon the earth and saw
your tired face. He put his arms
around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful he
only takes the best.

Just a few of the responses from Lois' high school classmates:
Sorry to learn that our sweet, spunky, selfless Lake View H.S. classmate, Lois Buenger, is no longer with us. Lois was a huge help in organizing our 50th reunion, by allowing us to use her park for our reception. Lois was one of the truly generous souls of this world, sharing her patrimony with anyone who loved Nature's beauty.

What a shame to lose someone of her vision and sweetness. She'll really be missed. It was a pleasure to know her.

Tr uly sad news--particularly so since I too had a loss Friday, March 21 when my mother Jeanne (Rodriguez) died.
Lois was a hero. What she did for that neighborhood was fantastic.

J ohn:
On the evening of the reunion, Lois invited me back to her home to change clothes before going to the dinner. I had not known her previously, but found a warm, generous new friend. She told be she had been ill, and hoped she would continue to be well. In just a few moments, I became acquainted with her life story, her charming, but quirky home and her cat. A worthy "ship that passed in the night."

Hello John,
Thank you for telling everyone about Lois. I went to the wake this evening and left after an hour because I felt so sad and teary after talking to her family and her friends from the school.
Her students (special needs students?) wrote memorial letters for her and drew pictures on construction paper. They really loved her as well as visiting Warner Park and Gardens where they claimed to have learned a lot. Apparently Lois used the garden as a classroom.
There was a huge beautiful display of flowers from Mayor and Mrs. Daley; and Alderman Shiller was there. The flower displays were gorgeous, but her friend, the School’s principal, noted that Lois would not appreciate so many CUT flowers. True; she would have preferred plants that could be maintained and kept alive.
She's being buried at Wunder Cemetery on Irving Park and Clark. So, she will remain in the neighborhood forever, just as her German forbears seem to have been in Chicago from early days. Wunder Cemetery was started by a Lutheran clergyman (Pastor Wunder).
Her passing is so senseless; we need people like Lois on this earth.

I only met Lois Buenger once for an hour or so, but during that time she left an indelable image with me of a true gem of a human being. When I heard of her passing, I was moved more than I would have expected. I am sure I will not forget her and will strive to be that kind of a person in the time I have left to me on this earth.

Our condolences to the nieces and nephews of Lois Buenger. Jim and I enjoyed a wonderful visit with Lois last year. We talked about relationships, school, friendship, love and her park. Jim was going to do the signage for the park; they talked about brass and sandblasted wood. Lois started feeling poorly and never made a selection for the park. If we can assist you in the selection, let us know. We are sending a gift to the park fund in her memory. What a lovely time we had visiting with her; she loved the flowers and organic food basket we brought from the staff of Ray Graham.

Ms. Buenger was a wonderful teacher at Ray Graham Training Center. She taught the students as well as the staff many things on horticulture. She was a blast to work with. When I think of her I think of as a rose in a garden full of tulips.
