Lisa Riley Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

LISA RILEY Lisa's life was a portrait of love and happiness. She illuminated every day with thoughfulness, elegance, laughter and grace. Her compassion for people led her to earn a Masters degree in counseling from Georgia State University. She furthered that effort into pratice as a counseling therapist at Purple, Inc. Counseling Center. Lisa's active interests, imagination and creativity led her into a highly successful career as a Georgia Sales Representative for J and C Associates. She served faithfully on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of Mercer University where she received her undergraduate degree. As a devoted member of Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church, Lisa was a proud member of the choir. Her musical interests stemmed from her early years as a handbell ringer at her home church, Morningside Baptist. She reflected her passions on a daily basis through her love of travel, her faith, her dedication to her beloved pets, her talent for decorating and coordinating parties, and her endless pursuit of the fine art of shopping. But there was no greater love for Lisa than her family. An adoring daughter, wife and sister, Lisa shaped and strengthened every member of her family and every friend with tireless loyalty and immeasurable love. She was the heart and soul of all of our lives. Preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Jeff (Laura) Thomas, aunt Mrs. Elaine Matthews, uncle Jack M. Kinney. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Timothy Shawn Riley, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip T. (Lavalle) Merrifield, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Brannon (sister, Linda), Mr. Christopher Merrifield (brother and wife Patty), Mr. Jeff Thomas (brother-in-law), Ms. Claudia Thompson (sister-in-law), aunts, Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Hay, Ms. Ruth Kinney, Mrs. Hugh (Joyce) Floyd, Ms. Anne Morecock, Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Webb, uncles, Mr. Benton Kinney, Mr. Jerry C. Kinney, nieces, Miss Paige Brannon, Miss Margaret Merrifield nephews, Mr. Patrick Brannon, Mr. Alex Thomas, Mr. Jeffrey Thomas, Mr. Arthur Thompson, dear devoted friends John and Cathy Brusack and many other beloved friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Spring Hill. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 o'clock at Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church, with Dr. David Sapp officiating. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery. Arrangements by H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel, 1020 Spring Street, 404-876-1022.

I had the honor of meeting Lisa several years ago when I worked at J&C Associates and she was the showroom manager for C&F. She was such a warm, loving, and kind person whom I was blessed to know. She immediately made me feel welcome when I met her and was so helpful. She loved her family and Tim without pause and would do anything for those she cared for. Even after I left J&C I would try to see her and "catch up" when I was at the Mart. Her smile was always so radiant and cheerful. She was truly beautiful inside and out. My prayers go out to Tim and all the rest of her family. She will be truly missed.

I went to middle school with Lisa many years ago. Unfortunately, we lost touch over the years. When I saw the news of her passing, I was stunned. I began remembering all the funny times we had together as girls. Giggling over boys, playing handbells together, laughing in class and passing notes. I can still hear her laughter which made me laugh harder. We used to share secrets together and dance around to the Bee Gees or whatever was popular then. My prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss.
