Lily Klinger Obituary

Klinger, Lily Ann June 24, 1958-September 1, 2001 beloved wife of Tom Brierton, formerly of Rushville, IL, passed away on September 1, of complications due to pancreatic cancer. Ms. Klinger, a native of Chicago, Illinois, worked as a development manager and grant writer for Advocate Health Care in Chicago. In the early 90's, Ms. Klinger was employed by the Chicago Architecture Foundation and also served the city as a docent. Born June 24, 1958, in Chicago, Ms. Klinger was a 1976 graduate of Kenwood H.S., she graduated with an undergraduate degree in Urban Planning and Development from James Madison College at Michigan State University. She was completing a Master's Degree in Philanthropy at St. Mary's University in Winona, MN, at the time of her death. A gregarious and warm person, Ms. Klinger was known for her generous and giving heart. Her kindness, warm smile and infectious laughter touched many people who came across her life. She married Tom Brierton on April 23, 1994, in Chicago. She is survived by her husband, her parents Dr. Alfred and Catherine Klinger of Chicago, her-in- laws, Jack and Portia Brierton of Rushville, IL, two sisters, Cecilia Klinger of Chicago and Janet Klinger of Seattle, WA, a brother, Daniel Klinger of Oregon and numerous cousins and aunts and an uncle. Saint Mary's University offers the Cohort 5 Scholarship to eligible students majoring in philanthropy. During her tenure at Saint Mary's, Ms. Klinger was part of the Cohort 5 group. Those wishing to donate memorials to this scholarship in Ms. Klinger's honor can contact Gary Kelsey, Philanthropy Director at Gkelsey smumn.edu. Ms. Klinger donated her remains to medical science. There will, however be a memorial service in her honor on Saturday, November 10, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held at the park house in Indian Boundary Park, Chicago, at the corner of Lunt Ave. and Campbell St. Sign-Guest Book at www.suntimes.com

Dearest Tom & all of Lily's family - I have thought of you often over the last month and I was pleased to read the beautiful obituary for Lily.



It was an honor for me to know Lily and I look forward to the memorial service on Nov 10th.



Lily - thanks for being a friend, a role model, and a beautiful example of how to live!
